3 October 2016: Justin Trudeau delivers a wink on the runway

Calvin Harris finds one perfect word

Scott and Chris recover from a weekend of freshers events by catching up with The X Factor. Calvin Harris has appeared at Nicole Scherzinger’s judges’ house, apparently ending the exile that followed his old pineapple protest during Jedward’s performance.

His expression gives little away, but his verdict on almost every singer is remarkably consistent: “fantastic”. Scott decides this is simply Calvin’s screen-saver face rather than proof that he wants to leave, although the contestants must trust they are doing well without seeing any visible enthusiasm.

Catering for the private jets

Listener Alex works for an executive catering company and personally delivers food to private aircraft. Recent orders have included breakfast for Louis Tomlinson and his friends, while Justin Bieber requested a blender for a single use before throwing it away.

The sums become more extravagant when Alex recalls delivering more than £5,000 of food for two passengers. Yet One Direction usually asks for Nando’s or McDonald’s, proving that unlimited luxury can still end with an Egg McMuffin.

Trudeau runs into view

Alex’s company catered Justin Trudeau’s refuelling stop at Stansted. After leaving the aircraft, the Canadian prime minister unexpectedly jogged along the dark taxiway before walking past Alex and winking at him.

Alex had intended to invite Trudeau onto Innuendo Bingo, but the prospect of being tackled by air marshals or losing his job stopped him. Scott accepts the decision while recognising that Alex came far closer to securing the booking than anybody on the programme had managed.
