Matt and Mollie invent the “adult bib” and ask listeners to name it

Monday’s Matt and Mollie show on BBC Radio 1 was dominated by a running joke about inventing a wipe-clean, see-through “adult bib” for grown-ups who spill food on smart outfits. The idea grew out of Matt admitting he’d worn a stained t-shirt to a dinner with Queer Eye’s Tan France and Jeremiah Asiyama the night before.

Matt and Mollie invited listeners to suggest a brand name in exchange for a share of their imaginary company, offering up to 1.5% of “the business” as texts poured in. Suggestions included Muncho, Invisibib, Bip Happens, Bavois (the French word for bib) and, from a listener called Zander, the “Biblouse.” The pair eventually leaned towards Bavois with “Bip Happens” as a tagline, though no final decision was made on air.

Elsewhere, listener Luke took on the five-to-two quiz, naming things seen in autumn, tools, ice cream flavours and card suits, before requesting Bakermat’s “All I Ever Wanted.” A separate quiz segment, Don’t Match Matt, saw contestants try to avoid picking the same toast topping, capital city, shoe, pizza topping and primary colour as Matt.

The show’s new Tune of the Week was revealed as Jamie Miller’s “Baby Doll,” which Mollie said had taken over her Instagram thanks to an accompanying dance craze.

In the Battle of the Tracks, caller Abby picked Matt’s track over Mollie’s, prompting Mollie to protest that his pitch had broken the rules. Later, Katie Thistleton dropped into the studio to preview her own show, mentioning coverage of the VMAs with guests Milo and Rosie. Matt also revealed he’d overlaid Mollie’s earlier attempt at singing an imagined new Taylor Swift song onto the real track, to mixed reviews from listeners.
