Angela Scanlon is to take over Sara Cox’s former BBC Radio 2 Drivetime slot, presenting a new weekday show from 4pm to 7pm from November.
Sara presented Radio 2’s Drivetime programme before moving to the station’s Breakfast Show, with a number of presenters hosting the afternoon slot since her move.
Angela, who presented several Drivetime shows on Radio 2 during the summer, will now take over the programme permanently, sitting in the schedule between Trevor Nelson and Jo Whiley.
She said: “Taking over Radio 2 Drivetime is properly exciting. Millions of people, all having completely different days, piling into the same conversation for a few hours – what a strange and lovely thing!
“Every weekday, I’ll be in your ears, your cars and your kitchens – on the school run, on the way home, or standing at the hob wondering what on earth to feed a small but hungry mob.”
Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, said Angela had proved “extremely popular” with listeners during her summer appearances.
She added: “Drivetime is such an important show in terms of ensuring people get home and start their evenings in a positive and upbeat mood, and I’m delighted Angela will be taking up the reins in November.
“I’d like to extend my thanks to all the hosts who have presented in this slot since our Sara moved on up to Breakfast.”
Angela previously presented Radio 2’s Sunday early breakfast show between 2018 and 2021 and has regularly covered for other presenters on the network. She has also presented on Virgin Radio UK and currently co-hosts the Get A Grip podcast.
Radio 2 has also announced that Ben Earle, one half of country duo The Shires, will become the new presenter of The Radio 2 Country Show on Thursday evenings from 9pm.
Angela Scanlon’s new Radio 2 Drivetime show begins in November 2026.
