Katy Perry returns
Katy Perry returned to Scott’s show around a decade after their earlier interviews.
Both reflected on how much had changed, with Katy now a mother and Scott newly married.
Their familiar teasing resumed almost immediately.
Why 143?
Katy’s new album was called 143.
She explained that the number was used as pager code for “I love you”, while longer combinations could mean “I love you always and forever”.
Scott produced an old pager from the 1990s and used it to deliver questions.
Favourite places and small luxuries
Katy named Santa Barbara as her favourite place because it combined ocean, mountains and a European feeling.
London came a close second because Orlando Bloom had family roots in Britain and the couple had spent so much time there.
Asked about her latest luxury, Katy chose a Thai massage that had left her feeling taller, looser and “full of light”.
The Birthday Game: Siobhan
Siobhan played on 31 July and discussed trying Pilates, spin classes and running.
She had recently bought new trainers as encouragement to move more.
Her first spin was Chris de Burgh’s The Lady in Red.
Siobhan had hoped to avoid Shakin’ Stevens, despite believing one of his songs had been number one when she was born.
The pager leaves with Katy
Scott offered Katy the pager so he could continue sending unanswered questions.
She accepted the dusty piece of 1990s technology before leaving the studio.
Handover
Scott handed over after the team noticed that Erasure’s Love to Hate You borrowed the melody of I Will Survive.
