Scott makes it up to Paul
Wendy returned after Scott accidentally revealed the London Zoo picnic she had planned secretly for her husband Paul.
She had emailed several weeks early in the hope of getting him onto the Birthday Game.
Scott read the message on air and exposed the destination before Paul knew.
Wendy had agreed to forgive him only if he made a proper fuss of Paul on his birthday.
Scott therefore introduced him as the loveliest man in Sunderland, praised his music taste and read Wendy’s message saying he was an absolute diamond.
The Birthday Game: Paul
Paul turned 59 and played from London Zoo.
He liked music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s but was less interested in the 1990s.
His first spin was Brotherhood of Man’s Eurovision winner Save Your Kisses for Me.
Paul rejected it.
His second spin was Spandau Ballet’s True, written by Gary Kemp about his crush on Clare Grogan.
After conferring with Wendy, Paul chose to keep it and dedicated the song to his boss.
His unused third song was Tony Christie’s Is This the Way to Amarillo?, reissued by Peter Kay for Comic Relief.
Paul said he liked that too but remained pleased with Spandau Ballet.
Preston Emu
Scott continued discussing Radio 2 in the Park’s move to Preston and the growing role of Preston Emu in the programme’s build-up.
The emu had become an unofficial symbol of Scott’s connection with the city before the September event.
The Music Police verdict
The Music Police returned to Daniel’s short melodic clue and remembered saxophone line.
The force compared the strongest suggestions with Daniel’s memory and brought the week’s investigation to a conclusion.
Scott praised the officers for solving a case that had received very little evidence and had nearly gone cold.
Handover
Scott handed over after finally making amends for the London Zoo spoiler.
