Radio 2 in the Park
Scott celebrated the announcement that Radio 2 in the Park would take place in Leicester on 16 and 17 September.
The line-up included Kylie Minogue, Tears for Fears, Busted, Jessie Ware, Rick Astley, James Blunt and many more.
Listeners in Leicestershire were particularly excited about the local-ticket allocation and the sudden value of having an LE postcode.
The Birthday Game: Claire
Claire from Didcot turned 53.
She had completed Couch to 5K using Jo Whiley as her audio coach and continued replaying Jo’s final run because she liked hearing the congratulations.
Claire had even completed a parkrun around a lake in Florida before discovering the water contained alligators.
Her birthday celebrations included seeing Harry Styles, after already attending Beyoncé’s tour.
Claire shared her birthday with Chris Evans, Kym Marsh, Kathy Burke, David Gray and Denise Pearson from Five Star.
Her first spin was Nelly Furtado’s Maneater, number one in 2006.
Claire accepted it immediately.
Her unused alternatives were Middle of the Road’s Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep and Wet Wet Wet.
James Blunt
James Blunt joined Scott from his home in Ibiza.
He confirmed Radio 2 in the Park would be his only UK festival appearance of the year and said he had loved playing previous Radio 2 outdoor shows.
Scott reminded him that his last appearance had ended with James travelling through the audience in an inflatable dinghy before capsizing.
James still owned the dinghy and suggested it might return in Leicester, with room for Scott.
The speed-awareness course
James also revisited an online speed-awareness course he attended during the pandemic.
He spent almost the entire three-hour session believing nobody had recognised him.
Near the end, the instructor asked what drivers could do to remain calm and avoid speeding.
Another participant replied that they could play some James Blunt music, revealing that everybody had known who he was all along.
The Music Police
Kat submitted a melody she could not identify.
The clue sounded familiar to Scott but contained no reliable lyrics.
The programme invited listeners to investigate and carried the case forward to Thursday.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after promising to return to Kat’s Music Police case.
