Birthday and anniversary dates
Scott asked listeners whether they remembered important dates after admitting he was unsure of the exact anniversary of his relationship with Sam.
Listeners described combining important events to reduce the number of dates they needed to remember.
Rachel and her husband met on a friend’s birthday and later married on the same date.
Others worked backwards from their children’s ages to estimate when relationships began.
The Birthday Game: Dawn
Dawn from Irvine in Ayrshire turned 55 while travelling north on the M6 from Evesham.
She had stopped regularly because her pug needed breaks and admitted the dog had a difficult attitude.
Dawn had rescued several dogs over the years, mainly boxers.
She loved live music and had attended T in the Park throughout much of its run.
Recent concerts included David Gray, Paul Weller and Billy Idol.
Dawn shared her birthday with Michael Caine, Quincy Jones, Simone Biles and Albert Einstein.
Her first spin was Chico’s It’s Chico Time, number one in 2006. Dawn rejected it.
The second was Tina Charles’s I Love to Love, featuring Elton John on piano. Dawn liked it but rejected that too.
Her compulsory final song was Jason Donovan’s Too Many Broken Hearts, number one in 1989.
Dawn recognised it immediately and accepted the result.
Scott recalled the level of Jason Donovan mania in the late 1980s and jokingly said his own favourite Neighbours star had been Bouncer the dog.
Rylan’s Comic Relief challenge
Rylan joined Scott before the broadcast of his Comic Relief challenge with Emma Willis and Oti Mabuse.
The trio trekked, camped and climbed in the Scottish Highlands during severe winter weather.
Gale-force winds initially prevented them from reaching the summit of Cairngorm Mountain.
Rylan said he expected to feel relieved by the delay but was instead disappointed because he had become determined to complete the challenge.
During the night, he heard movement outside his tent and assumed Emma Willis was leaving.
A deer’s hoof then struck the tent door.
Rylan joked that being touched by the deer might have brought luck.
When the group resumed, he noticed a ski lift near the summit and asked why they could not simply have used it.
Visiting a Comic Relief project
Rylan and Oti visited Jolly Good Company in Dorset, which supports older people with dementia and their partners.
The group sang around a piano, danced and played drums.
Rylan said seeing the project made the purpose of the challenge real.
Remembering the people helped him continue while cold, wet and frightened on the mountain.
Rylan at Melodifestivalen
Rylan had attended Sweden’s Melodifestivalen because his Radio 2 show was off air during Country to Country.
The event filled a Stockholm arena and attracted an enormous national audience.
The Swedish commentators invited Rylan into their booth after discovering he was present.
He unexpectedly appeared on television and helped commentate on the competition.
The official Sweden account later messaged him to say he had made his mark and that they would see him in Liverpool.
Rylan joked that the message might make him a dual national and asked for a diplomatic passport to avoid airport queues.
Scott and Rylan looked ahead to commentating on Eurovision’s semi-finals together on BBC One.
Eurovision ticket prize
Comic Relief offered two tickets to the sold-out Eurovision grand final in Liverpool.
The prize included accommodation, a contribution to travel and an optional meeting with Scott and Rylan.
Both joked that the meeting might make people less likely to enter.
Quincy Jones turns 90
Scott marked Quincy Jones’s 90th birthday with music he produced for artists including Michael Jackson, James Ingram and Michael McDonald.
Radio 2 also made archive programmes about Jones available through BBC Sounds.
Handover
OJ Borg was sitting in for Sara Cox.
Scott handed over after thanking Rylan and looking ahead to Calvin Harris joining the programme the following afternoon.
