Anne-Marie was Tune of the Week
Scott and Chris welcomed Anne-Marie back as “Heavy” became their new Tune of the Week.
They had long enjoyed the force with which she delivered the insult “you mug”, particularly when talking about relationships, and wondered what the equivalent phrase would be in different parts of Britain.
Listeners were recruited as regional translators.
Liverpool supplied “you blert”, Newcastle offered “you radgie” and Southampton contributed “squinny” for somebody who whined or complained too much.
Other suggestions included “you salad”, “you cactus”, “you absolute mouse mat” and increasingly elaborate combinations that did not necessarily have any recognised regional history at all.
Anne-Marie tried them against the lyric where she would normally use “you mug” and considered varying the insult according to whichever town she happened to be performing in.
Freshers Week had entered its difficult phase
A week into the university season, Scott and Chris asked students for the worst things that had happened so far.
The initial excitement of moving out had begun giving way to lost possessions, sickness, regrettable nights out and the realisation that Freshers Week could be physically exhausting.
Scott and Chris were experiencing plenty of it themselves through their run of university DJ dates.
One fresher completely lost himself to Nicki Minaj
Scott remembered inviting an enthusiastic student on stage because he claimed to know Nicki Minaj’s rap in “Swish Swish”.
The student did not, in any conventional sense, perform the rap.
Instead he began shouting and making noises with such commitment that the crowd eventually embraced the performance anyway. Scott was fascinated by the confidence required to volunteer for something without apparently knowing what would happen next.
