21 June 2016: Huw Stephens prepares for Glastonbury with Innuendo Bingo

A Glastonbury Bingo special

Huw Stephens arrived with wellies, a waterproof coat and an umbrella ready for Radio 1’s Glastonbury coverage. Chris interpreted “festival clothing” more broadly and appeared in a fluorescent orange fox onesie, creating a striking contrast when the cameras went live.

Huw played Innuendo Bingo before his weekend shows with Alice Levine. Clips came from Saturday Kitchen, Trooping the Colour, farming programmes and Radio 2, including questions about fuzzy balls and a caller’s crack. The waterproof clothing helped, but it did not prevent the presenter receiving a full Radio 1 soaking.

The game also inspired listener Louise to explain that she had renamed her boyfriend Michael after a favourite Rick Stein clip. He now answered to “Miguel” and “ensaimada”, the Majorcan pastry described on the programme as a king-sized lardy cake.

Replaced by her own mum

Leo’s best friend was a personal trainer, so introducing her to Leo’s mother initially seemed helpful. The sessions worked too well: the trainer and her client became friends, Leo’s mum joined group chats, received invitations to nights out and started returning home with gossip Leo had not heard.

The arrangement left Leo feeling displaced by her own parent. Her mum attended a recent birthday party and would have continued into town if another commitment had not intervened. The pair now shared in-jokes from training sessions, while Leo worried that anything she did on a night out would be reported directly home.

Chris argued that personal trainers should sign confidentiality agreements because they heard as much private information as hairdressers. He then expanded an unhelpful stereotype about trainers stealing people’s partners until Leo asked whether he expected her friend to get together with her mother.

A second Bangers point

Scott entered Tuesday one-nil ahead and offered Flo Rida to caller James. Chris expected his usual support but lost again, giving Scott two consecutive victories after the holiday.

The result left Chris convinced the roles had reversed. Scott had returned with a fresh collection of songs, while the person who normally supported Chris had abandoned him. Charlie Sloth later played Real or No Real, with stories about Drake’s number plate and non-alcoholic wine for cats.
