Joe Cole returned before the water started
Tuesday brought back Joe Cole, one of the show’s favourite recurring guests, and another round of Real or No Real.
The feature had always suited the programme because it allowed Scott and Chris to present completely believable nonsense alongside stories which sounded impossible but were true.
With only three shows left, bringing Joe back felt like another box being ticked before the end.
Scott became a dating-app selling point
The programme also heard from a listener using her previous Radio 1 shout-out on a dating profile.
Men were now replying to share their own sadness about Scott and Chris leaving.
Scott immediately suspected some of them were mainly using mutual grief as a route into conversation.
Even the farewell had become material for flirting.
Greg James hosted the final Innuendo Bingo
The major event was the last Innuendo Bingo.
For years Scott had hosted the game while guests and colleagues sat opposite each other with mouths full of water.
This time he wanted to play.
Greg James took over the presenter’s chair while Scott and Chris sat in the wet seats together.
The show had carried out Covid tests and restored the old face-to-face format rather than the separated version used during the pandemic.
Scott wanted the final game to be properly wet.
It was.
By the end both were soaked, exhausted and delighted.
Greg declared it an appropriate way to leave Radio 1.
Chappers returned to the studio
After Bingo, Mark Chapman came back onto the programme.
The reaction from the younger production team amused Scott because several of them had grown up listening to Scott and Chappers together.
Chappers admitted he felt strangely nervous despite having worked with Scott for around six years.
Their conversation returned to the earlier era of the show and the chemistry which existed before Chris became the main on-air partner.
The reunion made Tuesday feel like two generations of the programme meeting in one studio.
Scott had Chris beside him for the final Innuendo Bingo and Chappers back to represent the years which came before.
