21 June 2022: Brother or Lover fooled almost everybody with Adam and Sammy

Chris wanted to hear Beyoncé with virgin ears

Beyoncé had released Break My Soul at midnight.

Chris deliberately avoided it.

In an era when a new song could reach somebody through TikTok, streaming playlists, social media clips or somebody else’s phone within minutes, he wanted to preserve the old experience of hearing a major single for the first time on the radio.

Scott played it while Chris listened properly for the first time.

He had expected something different and was struck by how dance-heavy it sounded.

The pair talked about how rare it had become to remember the exact first moment a song entered your life.

Adam and Sammy arrived from Belfast

Brother or Lover then introduced Adam and Sammy.

Adam worked in exhibition and brand marketing and had completed a half Ironman, although he joked that only doing half meant he did not qualify for the famous tattoo.

Sammy worked in content at Titanic Belfast.

That immediately sent Scott off on a tangent about a Titanic picture he owned which had been signed by somebody connected with the ship and which he had found in an antique or auction setting.

The pair’s answers throughout the game gave the team a strong sibling impression.

There did not seem to be much obvious romantic energy.

Music and shared memories sounded like the sort of things people might have grown up with together.

The majority fell into the trap

Most of the team locked in brother and sister.

One dissenter went for lovers.

When the reveal came, Sammy confirmed Adam was her lover.

The studio reaction was immediate.

One member of the team had just said there appeared to be “no love” between them, which became rather more awkward once the truth was known.

Adam and Sammy had played the game exactly as intended, stripping any obvious couple energy out of their answers until nearly everybody made the wrong call.

Celebrity tattoos became another warning about permanence

The programme also heard from listeners with portraits or names of celebrities permanently tattooed on them.

Among the examples were likenesses that did not entirely resemble the intended famous person and a Joel Corry tattoo which required explanation whenever only part of it was visible beneath shorts.

Scott and Chris were fascinated by the faith required to commit permanently to somebody else’s public reputation.

A tattoo remained even if the celebrity, or your opinion of them, changed completely.
