Freshers needed advice from people who had barely had a Freshers themselves
Scott and Chris were meeting students at university events again.
The problem in 2021 was unusual.
First-years were nervous because they had never done university before.
Second-years were not always much more experienced because the previous year had been so disrupted by COVID.
The programme therefore assembled a university survival guide.
Do not bring heels you will never wear.
Accept that your weight might change.
Mark or guard your cutlery if you want to see it again.
Do not become the one person who always takes the bins out unless you want that job forever.
Wash the tea towels.
Learn a few cheap meals.
Do not put metal in a microwave.
And, according to one listener, do not carry your mattress to somebody else’s flat unless you are prepared for the awkward logistics of taking it back after the relationship ends.
Rich solved the bridge mystery almost immediately
The previous day’s missing-plaque story reached exactly the right person.
Rich was a motorway service-station enthusiast.
He travelled around the country photographing sites, recording changes and collecting their history.
More importantly, he had the Fleet Services site manager’s phone number.
Rich heard Scott talking about the missing plaque.
He made a call.
By around 2pm the next day, the plaque was back on the wall.
Scott could hardly believe it.
The plaque had been removed during refurbishment
Rich explained that refurbishment work had taken place on the side where the plaque had been mounted.
It had been taken down to prevent it being damaged.
The problem was simply that it had not gone back up afterwards.
Rich asked the site manager where it was and told him Scott wanted to know.
The matter was resolved.
Scott’s motorway-service legacy had been restored by one extremely well-connected enthusiast.
Rich turned out to know an extraordinary amount about services
The programme then forgot about the bridge for a while and became fascinated by Rich himself.
He talked about visiting motorway services for fun and recording their history.
He explained that people often assume Watford Gap was Britain’s first motorway service area, while he said Newport Pagnell Northbound opened shortly beforehand.
Scott and Chris began firing questions at him.
Favourite services.
Best food options.
Biggest sites.
Which ones had changed most.
Rich knew the answers.
A new Radio 1 character had been discovered.
Ben and Jodie were lovers
Brother or Lover featured Ben and Jodie.
Ben managed a sausage company.
Jodie was a dentist.
Ben watched football while Jodie tended to go into another room.
He had met some of her previous boyfriends.
They watched *Love Island* together.
Jodie confirmed Ben could deliver a good sausage — both because of his job and because the question had been phrased as suggestively as possible.
Scott, Chris and Amy chose lovers.
Travis and Layla chose brother.
The reveal:
lovers.
The majority had it right.
Scott decided their closeness and shared *Love Island* habit had given them away.
