Young Farmers do Bamboleo
Scott marked Bamboleo Wednesday by sharing footage from the Young Farmers’ annual meeting in Blackpool. Thousands of farmers had danced during his and Chris’s DJ set, with the programme adding arrows to identify particularly committed performers.
Chris was absent through illness, and listeners said they already missed him after only 20 minutes. The show carried on with Big Weekend information, including One Direction opening Saturday’s main stage and Kings of Leon doing the same on Sunday.
Harry Styles needs a wax
Scott wanted a rumour involving an artist who really would be in Glasgow. He telephoned a beauty salon and asked for an intimate male wax, explaining that his client was tattooed, hairy and preparing for a major event. The salon offered chest and back treatments but could not go farther south.
He gave the name “Mr H. Styles” and attempted to negotiate an appointment around One Direction’s Saturday set. The member of staff immediately recognised the connection and also realised the caller was from Radio 1. With the deception exposed, Scott asked her to share a story that One Direction had called the salon seeking a trim.
The next call went to Trevor’s Glasgow Ghost Walks on behalf of “Mrs R. Ora”. Trevor explained that heavy rain had caused a landslide in the cemetery, exposing coffins and forcing the attraction to close. Visitors had climbed over locked gates until engineering grease was applied to stop them. Rita Ora’s supposed celebrity status made no difference: the walk remained shut and, as Trevor repeatedly concluded, “we couldn’t win”.
5 Seconds of Summer lay down the song
The previous evening’s recording session had produced a chorus, a chant and the shape of the finished World Cup song. Scott joined the four members of 5 Seconds of Summer around a microphone, singing lower, flatter and later than the professionals beside him. He still needed to record his rap.
The band insisted that a rap was essential if they were competing with Mr Worldwide. Scott proposed “Mr England” as his own identity but admitted he could not copy Pitbull’s habit of naming romantic encounters around the world. The record would be generic enough for football supporters in any country rather than tied to England or Australia.
The longest Who Game
Listener Paddy challenged Joe, the established champion of the show’s nostalgic “Who?” game. The pair took turns naming forgotten or retro people and objects, each greeted by the appropriate cry. Saved by the Bell, Goldie Lookin Chain, Timmy Mallett, Lily Savage, Mega Drives, Rosie and Jim, CD:UK, inflatable furniture and Pogs all survived the opening run.
They continued through an entire record and returned with Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Gareth Gates, Digimon, Brookside, the GameCube and Bear in the Big Blue House. Neither appeared capable of running out. Scott eventually declared it the strongest game they had played and retained both men as champions.
Alice Levine catches up very slowly
Alice Levine played Real or No Real while admitting she listened to the daily podcast years behind schedule. Her current episodes still featured JLS together and Chris writing chick lit, making every reference to the present day a spoiler.
Aaron Paul really had said he wanted a part in EastEnders. Made in Chelsea‘s Andy Jordan was not recording a duet with Nina Nesbitt, although their acoustic styles made the fiction plausible. Facebook really was introducing a button allowing users to ask somebody for a hidden relationship status. Greg James had not signed up for ten personal-training sessions after meeting Hulk Hogan.
Scott won 40–20, while Alice left still facing several years of downloaded shows before she caught up with the result.
