19 August 2021: Pilots and magicians joined the dating warning list as Brad and Claire fooled Brother or Lover

Which jobs come with a dating warning?

Scott and Chris began collecting professions listeners had been warned about dating.

DJs were already an obvious entry.

Personal trainers came up.

Scaffolders.

Firefighters.

Even Arsenal fans were jokingly suggested despite football allegiance not being a profession.

The point was not that any occupation genuinely determines whether somebody will be a good partner.

It was about the stereotypes and personal horror stories people carry with them after one bad experience.

Abby had developed a firm rule about pilots

Listener Abby had worked in a hotel regularly used by airline crews.

Based on things she saw and heard there, she would never date a pilot.

She recalled flight crew behaving very differently away from home and stories about wedding rings disappearing during stays.

Scott and Chris treated this as Abby’s experience rather than a universal truth about pilots.

It still joined the warning list.

Then came another profession which sounded almost too perfect for the feature:

magicians.

Someone whose job is literally misdirection probably begins a relationship under suspicion.

The title wrote itself:

beware of magicians.

Brad and Claire looked suspiciously sibling-like

Brother or Lover then introduced Brad and Claire.

Brad was a head chef who enjoyed freerunning and extreme sports.

His signature food included slow-roasted barbecue pork ribs.

Claire was a production planner preparing to move into a pharmaceutical role.

The team began looking for clues.

Brad had bought Claire a yoga mat.

There had been weddings together.

Other wedding plans had been disrupted by COVID.

He regularly cooked for her, including family barbecues.

Nothing felt especially romantic.

Most of the team chose brother

Scott, Travis and Layla went for siblings.

Chris and Amy chose lovers.

The apparently family-centred food clues had pushed several people towards brother.

Then came the reveal.

Lovers.

Brad and Claire had been together for roughly four-and-a-half to five years.

Once again, a pair who sounded completely ordinary in their real relationship had become misleading simply because the team were listening for clues.

Little Mix memories and Instagram chaos completed the afternoon

The show also looked back at Little Mix around an anniversary milestone and revisited celebrity social-media moments.

By the end of the week, the programme had built an informal blacklist of jobs, been fooled by another couple and established that nearly any harmless detail can sound incriminating when Scott Mills starts analysing it.
