The BBC Director-General actually replied
One week earlier, Lynette had emailed Tim Davie asking him to help get Chris onto Celebrity MasterChef.
Scott and Chris had expected the letter itself to be the joke.
Then Tim replied.
The email thanked Lynette for getting in touch and said the idea would be passed towards the relevant people.
Scott could barely believe Granny Tinder had achieved direct correspondence with the Director-General of the BBC.
Chris immediately treated the reply as progress towards his future television cooking career.
Lynette was remarkably casual about the whole thing
Scott asked what had happened in her week.
Lynette initially suggested not much.
The presenters reminded her that the most senior person in the BBC had personally responded to her email.
For most people, that would qualify as an event.
Lynette did not appear especially star-struck.
She had written politely.
He had replied politely.
That was apparently that.
Scott loved how little fuss she made compared with the amount he and Chris were making.
Budgie smugglers created a separate problem
The dating profiles brought up swimwear described as budgie smugglers.
Chris understood the phrase.
Then he stopped and considered it literally.
Why a budgie?
What exactly was supposedly being smuggled?
He eventually announced that, for the record, he had never smuggled a budgie.
Scott thanked him for the clarification nobody had requested.
Bamboleo Wednesday returned
The usual Gipsy Kings ritual filled the middle of the week.
The show was still riding the after-effects of Lolathon and Granny Tinder’s successful letter campaign, but Bamboleo required no new idea.
Listeners knew the rules.
Dance.
Send a name.
Accept that Wednesday on this programme made more sense if nobody asked too many questions.
