4 February 2021: The Four Lads in Jeans judged Glos Vegas as Chris revisited his guide to the Isle of Man

The Four Lads were still searching for the ultimate night out

The Four Lads in Jeans returned to rate another selection of post-lockdown nightlife plans.

Listeners had to pitch an ordinary night in their town as though it were a luxury destination.

Scott and Chris loved the contrast.

Months earlier, a pub, buffet and nightclub would have sounded completely routine.

Now listeners were describing those same things with the enthusiasm normally reserved for a holiday.

Among the suggestions was Glos Vegas, the affectionate nickname for Gloucester nightlife.

Elsewhere, somebody tried to sell the lads on a Chinese buffet in Northern Ireland.

Another pitch involved a Sticky Licky out west.

The Four Lads scored each proposal with the authority of men whose fame had begun with one photograph outside a Birmingham bar.

The ratings could be brutally low

Scott often found himself defending towns after a caller failed to pitch them properly.

A weak score did not necessarily mean the place had a bad night out.

It could simply mean the listener had forgotten to mention the best club, kebab shop or bizarre local game.

That made the feature almost as much about local pride as nightlife.

People listening in the rejected town would immediately text to explain why the caller had got it wrong.

Teddy received another pupdate

Scott’s new dog was now a regular character.

Training, biting, sleeping and the general process of Scott learning how to own a puppy all supplied material.

Every small change became a pupdate.

The rest of the team increasingly treated Teddy as though he were another contributor to the programme.

Chris’s Isle of Man guide returned as a Golden Moment

The show also went into the archive for a Mills Golden Moment.

Chris’s old guide to the Isle of Man was replayed.

The joke was that Chris often produced travel guides with enormous confidence while possessing a slightly flexible relationship with local geography and facts.

Scott enjoyed hearing an earlier version of exactly the same dynamic that still happened whenever Chris tried to sound authoritative about a place.

EastEnders cliffhangers entered the quiz

Don’t Look It Up included a round on *EastEnders* cliffhangers.

The dramatic ending of a soap episode can be incredibly memorable in the moment.

Years later, removing the pictures and context made those same scenes much harder to place.
