26 November 2019: Gemma Collins met Nicole and declared her alien powered facial a success

Radio 1 had suddenly become completely festive

Scott and Chris looked across the Live Lounge area and found Christmas trees, lights, a choir in jumpers and baubles featuring Matt Edmondson’s face. Gemma Collins arrived in a sparkly outfit with tinsel and treated the whole thing as a major seasonal event.

She and Scott reflected on how long they had known one another. Gemma remembered still working at a car dealership when she first heard that Scott had been talking about her on Radio 1, and she credited him with being one of the first people on the station to give her that attention.

Nicole finally met the GC

Regular listener Nicole had already been connected with several of her favourite personalities through the show. Gemma Collins was at the top of the remaining list, and the programme finally introduced them live.

Gemma immediately tried to establish a Welsh connection, saying her grandfather had worked in the mines with Tom Jones and that she had family roots in Wales. She then struggled with Welsh words and the national flag, producing enough claims for Scott and Chris to realise that a fact checking session might be required the next day.

Gemma explained the facial she believed came from somewhere higher

Nicole asked about Gemma’s supposed healing powers and the conversation moved into a facial she had received in Los Angeles. Gemma said the woman who performed it claimed to be connected with aliens and to use technology from a higher power.

The appointment was already surreal before the treatment began because, according to Gemma, the woman greeted her with a pigeon on her head. Gemma was happy to believe the story and said the treatment had made her look dramatically younger.

When Nicole asked how she handled difficult days, Gemma’s answer became much simpler: breathe, take a moment and remember the things in life for which you are grateful.

A games console became the unexpected Christmas request

Elsewhere, the show debated a boyfriend’s request for a games console as a Christmas present. The idea quickly expanded into questions about where it would live, whether there should be two controllers and how often it would actually be played.

Listeners warned that a console bought on the promise of occasional use could easily become a permanent rival for attention. Scott, however, became increasingly enthusiastic about the prospect of visiting and joining in.

Funny Business went beyond Britain

Funny Business continued looking for company names that could test the presenters’ ability to stay composed, this time widening the search internationally. By this point, the feature’s reputation meant listeners were effectively scouting the world for signs and business names that might survive a straight faced phone call.
