22 October 2019: Foals judged themselves and Radio 1 tested the seven-second nipple theory

Foals were excellent in the Live Lounge

With Scott still away, Jordan North and Chris continued the show.

Foals had performed in the Live Lounge.

The pair were impressed enough to bring band members into the programme and ask them to review themselves.

Jordan also had a visual problem.

Listeners regularly told him he looked like Yannis from Foals.

A photograph with Yannis created more confusion.

People commenting online thought Yannis was Jordan.

Some said Jordan looked like a Spanish waiter.

Jordan had to point out that the man receiving the insults was actually a successful rock star.

Foals judged the performance

Yannis and Jimmy discussed the Live Lounge and the nerves which could still exist even for a band with years of performance experience.

The Live Lounge was unusually exposed.

Songs were stripped back or rearranged.

Cameras were close.

There was nowhere to hide behind the scale of a festival stage.

Scott and Chris had spent Live Lounge Month asking artists to assess themselves.

Foals were the latest to hear the performance through their own critical ears.

“Dirty Debs” was still only Deborah

Jordan also updated listeners on his older neighbour Deborah, who had invited him round for dinner.

Chris had built the visit into something far more suggestive than it needed to be and nicknamed her Dirty Debs.

Jordan objected.

She was simply Deborah.

The dinner itself had happened without the fantasy scenario Chris invented.

Unfortunately, Jordan had talked about it enough before going that he later dreamed about Deborah.

He insisted the dream was not especially explicit.

Chris regarded that as evidence the nickname had already won.

Karaoke at a funeral was normal to Jordan

Another old Jordan detail returned.

At his grandmother’s funeral, the family had eventually gone to her local pub where there was Friday-night karaoke.

Jordan had sung.

Listeners were divided over whether karaoke after a funeral was touching or bizarre.

Jordan thought it was completely normal.

The family had gone for a drink in his grandmother’s memory.

The pub happened to have karaoke.

He remembered singing Elton John.

Chris liked the image while still insisting it was not a standard funeral tradition.

Mind Blown became live science

Monday’s Mind Blown feature had included a bodily fact:

flicking a nipple could make it hard within around seven seconds.

Listeners had obviously tested it.

Chris and Jordan decided they needed live verification.

They exposed enough of themselves to perform the experiment and flicked.

Then they counted.

It worked.

The reaction was wildly disproportionate to the scientific value.

Jordan and Chris declared the fact proven on Radio 1.

The programme immediately received messages from listeners admitting they were testing it too.

The show knew exactly how ridiculous it was

Chris observed that moments like this made them feel they were stealing a living.

A major BBC radio station had just devoted airtime to two presenters flicking their own nipples and counting to seven.

The audience joined in.

That probably justified it.
