22 February 2019: Friday Extra gave Nicole the extended cut

Friday Extra Show: Nicole had become a proper recurring character

Extra podcast edition

Chris opened the Friday show by admitting one listener had dominated the week in the best possible way.

Nicole from Pontypridd had first appeared on Radio 1 because she had never been on a plane.

Her questions about air travel had made listeners fall in love with her.

Now the show had reached a completely different stage.

Scott and Chris wanted Nicole to interview celebrities.

The Friday podcast therefore released more of the conversations which had not fitted into the weekday shows.

Eamonn Holmes was still number one

Nicole’s shortlist of dream guests was headed by Eamonn Holmes.

Scott had been surprised by the choice because he expected a pop star or YouTuber.

Nicole simply loved Eamonn.

She described him as warm, cosy and exactly the kind of television personality she wanted to speak to.

Phillip Schofield was another favourite.

The pattern suggested Nicole’s dream interview series might look more like *This Morning* than Radio 1.

Chris thought that made the idea better.

Scott had already messaged Eamonn

The Extra Show included Nicole’s reaction when Scott revealed he had actually contacted Eamonn.

Scott had sent a direct message explaining that Radio 1 had a lovely listener who considered him her absolute favourite celebrity and would love to interview him.

Eamonn replied positively.

Nicole immediately started shaking.

She repeatedly asked whether he genuinely knew who she was now.

Scott confirmed that he did.

The possibility of the interview had become real.

Nicole’s excitement was the entire point

The longer edit worked because Nicole did not perform excitement for radio.

She simply sounded genuinely overwhelmed.

Chris said the programme could interview famous people every week through professional presenters.

Hearing somebody meet their actual hero offered something different.

The plan was now clear.

Radio 1 would try to arrange the first edition of Nicole Meets.

Eamonn Holmes was the target.
