16 November 2018: Kitty accidentally reviewed a kebab shop instead of a nightclub

Friday Extra Show: the curry deserved a better title

Extra podcast edition

Chris began by replaying Mikey and Eileen’s Where Do You Think They Were?

He still loved the Valentine’s curry story.

With hindsight, Chris thought the programme had wasted the title “The One With The Curry”.

The better name was obvious:

“Come on, Eileen.”

Apparently producers had already considered the joke and decided it was too much for daytime Radio 1.

The Friday podcast allowed Chris to say it anyway.

Scott was not in Blackpool

Chris assumed Scott might already be in Blackpool because Strictly was broadcasting from the famous Tower Ballroom that weekend.

When he called him, Scott was not there.

He had to present the Official Chart that afternoon and this was his first Strictly-free weekend for a while.

Scott admitted he would have liked to go.

He joked that he was one of those former contestants who found it difficult to let go of the Strictly family, although his official podcast work gave him a legitimate reason to keep returning.

The call also revealed that Chris had recently turned on Watford’s Christmas lights and none of his friends or family had actually turned up to watch.

Kitty wrote the review in the club itself

The Extra Show returned to the week’s nightclub reviews with Kitty.

Kitty had gone out in Newquay and become increasingly annoyed with the venue.

The music was loud.

The place was hot and sticky.

Then two double vodka and cranberry drinks cost around £18.

In a drunken haze, Kitty sat down inside the nightclub, opened TripAdvisor and began writing a long angry review while the night was still happening around her.

Chris loved this.

He had imagined the furious reviews being written once people got home.

Kitty had apparently been sitting in the club itself, typing like an outraged lawyer.

The kebab shop had no idea what she was talking about

A few weeks later, Kitty received a reply.

That was when she realised the mistake.

The nightclub and a local kebab shop had similar names.

Kitty had posted the entire nightclub rant on the kebab shop’s review page.

The confused owner politely explained that the business did not even sell vodka and cranberry, so he could not understand why Kitty claimed she had been overcharged for it.

Kitty had to confront the fact that her extremely detailed legal case against a nightclub had been served on a completely innocent takeaway.

The mistake made Scott and Chris’s favourite nightclub reviews from earlier in the week look relatively sensible.

A midwife said babies were being born to the show

Listener Ellie messaged Chris with an extraordinary piece of context.

She was a midwife and regularly played Scott and Chris’s programme at work.

That meant babies had literally been born while the show was playing.

Chris immediately started worrying about which features had been on during labour.

Was Akon’s “Smack That” an appropriate Bangers choice?

Could Innuendo Bingo help because laughing might distract somebody from contractions?

Chris admitted he was not medically qualified to answer either question.

He was still amazed that the programme had accidentally become part of people’s birth stories.

The Extra Show kept giving career advice too

A lorry driver called Curtis asked Chris how somebody could begin a career in radio.

Chris gave a longer answer than the normal weekday programme would allow.

He talked about starting with student radio, hospital radio and small local opportunities, finding something distinctive about yourself and representing a group or perspective rather than simply trying to imitate existing presenters.

The Friday show had begun with curry innuendo and a kebab-shop review.

It ended with surprisingly practical advice about entering broadcasting.
