Remembering Tina Turner

The programme followed news of Tina Turner’s death at 83.

Scott played tributes from musicians and broadcasters and reflected on her extraordinary stage presence.

Trevor Nelson described Tina as the standard against which later performers were measured and said he had seen the same energy in Beyoncé.

Radio 2 and BBC Sounds made archive performances and interviews available, while The One Show prepared a television tribute.

The Birthday Game: Heather

Heather from Alton in Hampshire turned 47.

She worked in a school administration department and spent much of her spare time driving her teenage children Libby and Tom to different activities.

Heather shared her birthday with Mike Myers, Sir Ian McKellen, Paul Weller and Julian Clary.

She wanted 1990s dance music, musical theatre or something cheerfully cheesy.

Her first spin was Sam Smith’s Stay with Me. Heather rejected it.

The second was Cher’s The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in His Kiss). She rejected that too.

Her compulsory final song was Rihanna’s Take a Bow.

Heather accepted it, although the birds in her garden were so loud that they repeatedly interrupted the feature.

Ella Henderson’s Music Police result

Ella Henderson’s clue had been: “I will do the laundry if you pay all the bills.”

Thousands of listeners recognised the line from Paula Cole’s Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?

Scott called Ella with the answer.

She recognised it immediately and reacted with relief after spending days unable to name the song.

The 1997 single came from Paula Cole’s album This Fire and became the solution to another successful Music Police investigation.

ABBA rule out Eurovision

Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus were asked whether ABBA might appear when Eurovision returned to Sweden in 2024, exactly 50 years after their victory.

Benny answered with a direct no and made clear that he did not want to take part.

Scott admired the clarity of the response.

Handover

Scott handed over to Sara Cox after closing Ella Henderson’s Music Police case.
