Chris got another dental telling-off
Chris had been back to the hygienist and once again found himself being lectured about how long he had left things.
That turned into a lengthy attempt by Scott and Chris to establish the hierarchy of dental jobs.
Was a hygienist below a dentist?
Where did orthodontists fit?
Why were they called orthodontists rather than “ortho-dentists”?
Listeners working in dentistry began correcting the pair.
Scott accepted that the professionals probably knew more about the subject than two radio presenters trying to construct an organisational chart from job titles.
Three Lions had nowhere to go but down
England’s World Cup run was over, but “Three Lions” had surged to number one.
Scott was already thinking ahead to the following chart.
The song had benefited from an extraordinary national moment which had suddenly ended.
He wondered whether it could become one of the most dramatic drops ever from number one, potentially falling straight out of the Top 40.
For somebody who was still getting used to presenting the chart, it created a strange situation.
There would be no suspense over whether the current number one could hold on.
Everybody knew the emotional circumstances had changed completely.
Scott was promoted to head of topiary
The much bigger problem was Chris’s wedding.
Scott had already been appointed head of fashion.
Now he described himself as head of “topiary”.
The metaphor was deliberate.
Chris needed some grooming before the ceremony, and the part of the discussion they could not comfortably describe on daytime Radio 1 was turned into gardening.
Hair and eyebrows were easy.
Then they reached “the garden”.
Scott had spoken to Chris’s fiancée about what she thought would be appropriate, which Chris found deeply strange.
The options on a grooming website were priced by different areas.
Scott and Chris began describing the layout as if they were planning landscaping.
There were two major areas.
There was a pathway between them.
The question was whether everything should remain natural, be trimmed back or be removed.
Listeners began offering their own horticultural advice, including one suggestion that they should simply “pave the whole thing”.
Chris was not entirely sure what his own garden was supposed to look like.
Scott promised to find somewhere and make him call personally.
Zedd was moved to Thursday
The pair were also preparing for Zedd to visit Radio 1.
The date briefly moved around in the diary before Thursday was confirmed.
Chris suggested that somebody of Zedd’s level would be an incredible person to DJ the wedding.
Scott argued that asking one of the world’s biggest producers to do a wedding set could sound less flattering than Chris intended.
Chris insisted it was the opposite.
If he could choose almost anybody, Zedd would be high on the list.
Scott had already agreed to help with clothes, grooming and general wedding organisation.
He was not planning to add international superstar DJ booking to the job description.
