How Radio 1 used to sound on New Year’s Eve

These days Radio 1 has been mostly automated over New Year’s Eve as the station counts down to a brand New Year, but ten years ago it sounded very different.

Scott Mills used to present the show from around 9pm and air until 1am taking calls and texts from listeners, ringing celebrities asking about their evening plans, and playing floor fillers.

In 2006 Scott’s New Year’s Eve House Party featured voiceovers recorded by the X Factor Voiceover Guy and even some clips from Cillit Bang’s Barry Scott. There were phone calls from Radio 1 DJs and celebrities like Fatboy Slim. Moreover while Scott was in the mix the station made the turn of the year more momentous than it is these days.

Hear our clip of Scott’s New Year’s Eve House Party 2006 and how the New Year was celebrated below.
