Denise Welch and Sara Cox play the Press 1 Game
Scott introduced the Press 1 Game on the principle that celebrities with plenty of money still enjoy free things. Lawrence the computer voice rang famous people with bizarre invented prizes, and listeners had to predict whether the recipient would press one to claim them. The game was less a test of celebrity greed than an excuse to hear people react to a very strange automated call.
Denise Welch was offered seven minutes in a hot tub with CeeLo Green, with a glass of “bubbly” and a silk robe included. She pressed one, then explained she was in the middle of a Loose Women anniversary photoshoot dressed as one of Thelma & Louise, though she thought she looked more like Brian May. Scott seized on every part of the answer, particularly the phrase “bubbly”.
Sara Cox was next. Her prize was a VIP day at the fictional Anthony Costa World, a Blue-themed attraction near Newport Pagnell featuring rides such as the One Love Rapids and a small London Eye-style structure. Sara pressed one too, happily entering into the nonsense and giving the team the second correct prediction of the game.
Scott also used the programme to trail the next Dear Scott, which would be handled by the PR4M while the PR4L was away in Amsterdam. The team looked back at the unexpectedly heated debate over everyone’s preferred ring on a gas hob, with Scott, Beccy and Chris all declaring for back right while listeners made the case for front left.
Matt Edmondson joined later for a Stupid Street question tied to T in the Park: who was the greatest Scottish person ever? The public offered a gloriously muddled collection of names, including David Tennant, Sean Connery and variations on Mel Gibson’s Braveheart character. The programme moved from made-up prizes to made-up facts with the same affection for people answering confidently.
