Chris needs a toilet, not Grand Designs
Scott worries that Chris looks pale after weeks living in a house with neither kitchen nor bathroom. The barbecue remains his main cooking appliance, while his attempt to rent portable toilets has proved unexpectedly expensive.
Chris contacts Kevin McCloud for help, but Scott says the project is several levels below Grand Designs and requires Nick Knowles instead. They distract themselves with a celebration of Beaconsfield services, where a caller has deliberately travelled for lunch among the restaurants, pub and enormous spring rolls.
King knows every Banger
Listener King has built an elaborate spreadsheet covering almost every edition of Bangers. He records the date, songs, result, caller, gender, location, artist nationality and genre, producing a more complete archive than Radio 1’s internal document.
The data suggests that Scott performs better with female callers and rock or R&B, while Chris is stronger with men, dance and rap. King carefully explains why the success percentages do not need to total 100, and is appointed the programme’s unofficial statistics expert. Scott immediately wants to use the findings to reverse his losing streak.
Rinder prepares for the first live dance
Judge Rinder has hurt his back during training with Oksana Platero and is finally feeling the pressure of public judgment. He normally worries only about his own opinion of other people, making the experience of waiting for votes unfamiliar.
Rinder keeps the dance and song secret, while Scott predicts a legal theme. Clara Amfo later plays Real or No Real and explains how she handles a disappointing Live Lounge: she praises the genuinely strong parts of the performance without falsely complimenting a poor vocal.
