Chris visits the Juggalos
Scott praises Chris’s new documentary about the Gathering of the Juggalos, an extreme American festival created around Insane Clown Posse. Chris entered an environment of wrestling, unusual foam parties and very relaxed attitudes to clothing with a bearded festival guide called Mangina, who wore a floral bikini.
The experience was intense enough to require multiple warnings on BBC iPlayer, but Chris found an unexpectedly strong sense of family among the Juggalos. Strangers looked after one another and readily shared whatever somebody appeared to need. He advises intrigued listeners to try the opening minute, because it accurately signals how much stranger the programme becomes.
Insults reveal the twelfth celebrity
Scott and Chris know the identity of the next Strictly Come Dancing contestant but make him wait silently in the studio. They test how long the famously sharp guest can resist responding by criticising his hamster cheeks, clothing, voice and charm.
Judge Rinder eventually answers with much stronger insults and is unveiled as the twelfth celebrity. He chose Scott’s programme for the announcement after being mildly inspired by Scott’s own run, although he is less interested in conventional lines about wanting to reach Blackpool. Rinder hopes for a Russian partner, admits genuine nerves and promises not to pretend that every part of the experience is wonderful.
A very different Strictly contestant
Rinder says he can do the Charleston, taught by his school nurse when he avoided biology lessons, but has little other dance experience. Scott believes his competitive instinct and willingness to challenge Craig Revel Horwood could make him a dark horse.
The new contestant is more concerned about the cast’s forced enthusiasm than the physical work. He expects to like anybody kind and unpretentious but sees no reason to tell false stories about the experience. Scott immediately asks to visit training, anticipating a weekly supply of unusually honest Strictly updates.
