Scott returns to the campaign
Scott returned after a few days away to find that some listeners had been asking for Dev to remain in his place. Chris had continued campaigning for Strictly Come Dancing votes, including calls to businesses and a conversation with Pixie Lott’s mother about how she intended to use her own votes.
The latest publicity tool was a tuxedo-print T-shirt carrying the message “Vote Scott”. Chris claimed ten had been made, although it soon became clear that only his own shirt existed. Scott appreciated the effort while questioning whether cold-calling strangers during their working day was really helping.
Two formats meet under a mirror ball
The Live Lounge had been transformed with velvet curtains, coloured lighting, plastic sheeting and a Strictly mirror ball. A waiter served water in champagne flutes as Scott launched Strictly Come Bingo, bringing contestants from the ballroom into Innuendo Bingo.
Steve Backshall and Ola Jordan became the first pair. They arrived directly from training and were relieved to meet somewhere that did not carry the usual pressure of rehearsals. Their recent cha-cha-cha had been difficult, while Ola appeared considerably less certain about the radio challenge ahead.
Ola receives the full force
Steve committed immediately. Clips about roasting beef, massive mouths, wildlife and gardening repeatedly sent water across Ola, whose looks towards her partner became part of the entertainment. The surroundings might have been elegant, but the small flutes required constant refilling and the floor quickly resembled a conventional Bingo session.
Scott awarded the performance seven points, explaining that seven was the only paddle available. Steve enjoyed the game; Ola needed a towel and some time to reconsider what had just happened. Listener reaction was strong enough for a second Strictly Come Bingo to be commissioned for the following week.
Charlie turns Chris into a speaker
Charlie Sloth joined Real or No Real. One claim suggested earphones placed in a person’s nostrils could make music audible through their open mouth. Chris tested it in the studio and produced enough sound to surprise everyone, although Scott repeatedly warned listeners not to copy the experiment.
The game also claimed Buzz Aldrin had become the oldest contestant on an international version of Strictly. That was real: the astronaut appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and was eliminated in its second week after dancing to “Fly Me to the Moon”.
