Tom Daley helps expose Scott’s oblivious flatmate
Newsreader Chris Smith faced Chris Stark in Innuendo Bingo and initially appeared too accustomed to delivering unusual stories to be caught out. Clips about a glistening Formula 1 helmet, Hadrian’s Wall as a place to gaze and wonder, a couple’s semi-detached house and an unexpectedly large strawberry soon tested that composure. Other contributions covered reshuffling ministers, something that had not touched the sides on Countryfile, rubbing fish and smelling fingers, Big Brother’s Situation sitting on the naughty step and Julie admiring Harvey’s ring.
Chris Smith remained comparatively controlled, while Stark repeatedly sprayed water across the studio. The longest sequence yet also included a Coronation Street threat involving a roasting spit, a tractor pulling pigs and a BBC report about battered helmets. Scott concluded that the newsreader’s professional discipline had helped, but it had not kept him completely dry.
Suzanne Dando’s fridge and the celebrity Hardware Cafe
Show introducer Tom owned a fridge-freezer that had previously belonged to former Olympic gymnast and television presenter Suzanne Dando. His builder stepfather had recovered it while clearing her fire-damaged home, and Tom occasionally offered visitors some “Dando cheese”. Scott wanted the appliance for a restaurant filled with mundane items once owned by celebrities, a domestic alternative to the guitars and leather jackets displayed by the Hard Rock Cafe.
Listeners added a mirror used by Girls Aloud during Popstars: The Rivals, Kate Winslet’s cooker and DJ Casper’s popcorn maker. Scott and Chris considered names including the Hardware Cafe and the Stephen Temple, while rejecting shoes and clothing because the collection needed to remain focused on furniture, kitchen appliances and white goods.
Oh! What’s Occurring?
Scott called his flatmate and spoke entirely in lines from Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl”. The flatmate accepted the apparent confession at face value, assumed Scott might have kissed the cleaner and continued offering advice even after hearing references to cherry ChapStick and hoping a boyfriend would not mind. More than two minutes passed before Scott directly asked whether the words seemed familiar, but his flatmate still failed to recognise the song.
Olympic diver Tom Daley joined the guesses by telephone after pulling into a car park on his way back from training. He had spent two weeks eating cakes and pies after the Games, but had now returned to the pool and was also due back at school. Tom correctly chose the option that Scott’s flatmate would never work out the trick, earning ten Danny Howard points. When the prank was later explained, the flatmate still struggled to name Katy Perry and initially described her only as a dark-haired singer.
Sing Date and Chris’s future wedding
Scott’s latest television favourite was Sing Date, in which somebody performed webcam duets with three potential partners before inviting one to a face-to-face karaoke date. He loved the awkward ending, where the pair had sung together for only a few minutes but were asked whether they had found love. The discussion led to an imagined wedding for Chris, with “Mile High Club” accompanying a choreographed entrance and Chris zip-lining into the ceremony.
In a second round of Oh! What’s Occurring?, Matt Fincham and Chris judged supposed facts. They correctly identified an annual-bath law in Kentucky and the average three-second length of a hug as real, while rejecting claims that Enter Shikari had written a song about John Sergeant leaving Strictly Come Dancing and that Henry the Hoover’s face was modelled on George Michael.
