23 August 2011: Chris takes a fish to the face for Scott’s Epic Win challenge

Scott had become obsessed with BBC One’s Epic Win, particularly the contestants whose talents were so specific that they bordered on impossible. After seeing people identify Steven Gerrard from his hairline and recognise meat with their feet, he decided the show’s fish-slapping challenge was perfectly suitable for Chris.

Chris was blindfolded and asked to name fish as Scott hit him around the face with them. He managed only one correct answer from the seafood stick, mackerel and salmon flake, but the experiment was a success in the only sense that mattered to the programme: everyone in the studio found it funny.

The lack of a camera became an immediate regret when listeners asked where they could watch the video. Scott and Chris considered doing it again, despite the fact that Chris’s face was already greasy and he had been much less enthusiastic once the fish started landing.

There was another small domestic crisis in Scott’s flat. His flatmate’s sister’s white dog had acquired a red-wine stain after a weekend accident, and the team discussed the limits of what could safely be used to clean it. White-coat shampoo, rather than stain remover, was the sensible answer.

Scott also looked back on appearing on Shooting Stars and then revealed Chris had called his agent while pretending to represent a production company. The proposed programmes, including Mills on Wheels and Groins of Time, were ridiculous enough to test even an agent’s patience, but she stayed politely on the phone far longer than expected.
