Scott returns from Edinburgh with a hoarse voice and an X Factor credit
Scott was back at Radio 1 after the Fun and Filth Cabaret run in Edinburgh, although the week of shouting had left his voice sounding rough. He and Beccy treated the change as a temporary “sexy voice” phase, while accepting that he was probably heading for a proper cold if it carried on.
The return came with a sizeable bit of television excitement. Scott had recorded the first voice heard on the new series of The X Factor, over its opening helicopter shots, and was hugely pleased that his contribution had made it into the programme. He also revealed that he had sent an enthusiastic Twitter message to Dragons’ Den’s Hilary Devey, in the hope of eventually meeting her.
Edinburgh remained a major part of the conversation. Scott recalled Grimmy getting into a coffin during the cabaret and attempted a new impression built around the memory, with limited success when asked to do it on demand. Beccy was happy to point out that the impression seemed much better when Scott was telling the story in a bar.
The team also derailed Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” into a discussion about the phrase sounding rather less romantic when taken literally. It was exactly the kind of side-route that made a normal record introduction turn into a prolonged studio debate.
By the end, the first programme back had the familiar post-trip feel: Scott was tired, hoarse and full of stories, but clearly still buzzing from Edinburgh and the unexpected X Factor appearance.
