Chappers’ television appearance drew an outfit review
Mark Chapman’s football television work gave Scott a reason to examine what he had been wearing, including the sort of tweed and presenter styling which could never pass unnoticed once colleagues had seen it on screen.
French became the day’s attractive language
A caller with a French girlfriend called Audrey helped demonstrate how ordinary phrases changed when delivered with the accent. Scott attempted his own version and quickly proved that simply copying the sound was not quite the same as possessing the charm.
Office excuses entered the conversation
The programme also heard stories about deleted files, computer systems and the kind of technological explanations people use when work goes wrong. It was a suitably ordinary contrast to the romantic accent debate: some things might sound better in French, but a missing office document probably remained a missing office document in any language.
