17 November 2008: Beyoncé’s single glove turned Scott into Sasha Fierce

Beyoncé brought Sasha Fierce to Radio 1

Beyoncé’s Live Lounge appearance gave Scott an excuse to discuss the alter ego she was using at the time. The single glove became the visual detail he could not ignore.

Scott tried the transformation himself

If Beyoncé could become Sasha Fierce by changing persona and appearance, Scott wanted to know whether one glove might have a similar effect on him. The experiment was knowingly ridiculous but let the show turn a polished pop-star image into something anyone in the studio could imitate badly.

Choirs and television mishaps followed

A church-choir competition brought contemporary songs into a very different setting, while television material involving Kate Silverton and an elephant-related mishap also entered the show. The common thread was transformation: pop songs becoming choral numbers, a glove becoming a personality switch and television clips becoming Radio 1 punchlines.
