  1. But 2 years really isn't that short...so many daytime shows over time have lasted that or less. If it was a true disaster it would have lasted 6 months. (And I am saying this as a non-fan). It's not a success story clearly but not a disaster either.
  2. The more I think about this, the less I understand it. Vick and Katie would be a good Going Home show without Jamie. What did happen in the aftermath of Jordan leaving. Did Katie initially turn it down and they persuaded her to change her mind? Did they see the reaction to Jamie and see that they needed Katie to balance out the loss of Jordan? Some odd chain of events has happened
  3. Don't get me wrong - the show being axed says that the station accepted it was no longer the right thing to continue with but "disaster" is too strong. They didn't kill the ratings. (And I am saying this as somebody who never really liked the show).
  4. I gave it another try today and still didn’t warm to it and your comment is the biggest problem. Jamie just won’t shut up but doesn’t seem to realise when he is adding no value. We all know Jordan wasn’t as random as he pretended to be. He knew exactly what he was doing but that’s because he is a skilled presenter who is obsessed with his craft. The contrast couldn’t be (Chris) starker.
  5. I like Katie and I enjoyed Vick with Jordan so I will give it another go today but I can't see me sticking with it. Jamie is clearly quite marmite and not for me. Curious what they will replace Judge Jordan with today.

If they'd been a total disaster ratings wise - they would have been long gone and we'd have heard all about it.
  7. Two years isn’t exactly a failure - it’s only seen as a failure by comparison to how long many national radio shows last. I suspect a tonne of factors at work in the show ending now. Nick Grimshaw only did two years on drive after breakfast and back in the day Mark and Lard lasted 6 months or so on Breakfast.

Strangely though - listeners seem to take a lot to switch off. Despite very little positivity, I don't think Dean and Vicky killed the figures as bad as we might have expected.
  9. It just shows how we are all different and have different humour as I would have laughed out loud most days with Jordan there and at best I tolerated today.
  10. I think there is a lot of truth in this...if they let Katie dominate things a little, this has the potential to be ok. The biggest problem for me today is it was almost like Vick and Katie with Jamie as the star guest and focus of attention.
  11. I'm sorry - it is virtually unlistenable. I had hoped for better when it was announced Katie was going to be a part of it. It is incredibly Jamie dominated. He just keeps talking randomly. I don't think it helps that it is basically the same show as before so the Jordan shaped hole is obvious.
  12. "I only have famous friends" - if he is trying to prove "he isn't just a posh idiot" this is probably not a wise start.
  13. First half hour wasn't exactly a riveting listen - Jamie playing messages from celebrity friends wishing him luck..
  14. It's possible to start a new role then sort the contract later. I have done that before. Plus he has an existing relationship with the station.
  15. I personally would like Sam And Danni to get weekend lunchtimes.

That came across to me too. How many listeners could afford just not to turn up 30 times to something they'd paid for. The issue isn't really about Jamie's background to me but more about understanding his craft. Radio is a skill - the greats like Terry Wogan, Chris Evans, Chris Moyles, Steve Wright, Ken Bruce, Greg James and let's even add Jordan North have all shown it's about connecting with people. That takes experience and also I'd argue stuff you can never just learn but have an innate understanding of the industry. Jamie seems to think you open the mic and that's it. I am curious how this sounds, Vick and Katie have been doing shows for a long time, including many weeks in that slot when Katie has been in for Jordan. It may not be so bad as it could have been without Katie there but still...I think it could also sound "too busy" Another thing to consider is Vick - gradually her world is so far from listeners that could be an issue too.
  17. Most people don’t want to do Early Breakfast for too long and Arielle now seems to want to be purely a specialist presenter, also concentrating on her DJ career.
  18. With no disrespect to him - he is naturally going to put a brave face on this.
  19. That will be unlistenable - you know that already.
  20. As I said on another thread - I feel sorry for them. The events are more a reflection on management than the two presenters and this sort of thing can damage a presenters career very badly.
  21. No doubt they need a break after how many days in a row? Plus some commuting between London and Cardiff.
  22. Having Katie there will also dilute Jamie. Radio 1 really has pulled out the stops to compensate for Jordan's departure. You do get the impression station management realised how bad the situation was and had to strengthen the line-up a lot.
  23. I do feel a little sorry for Dean and Vicky. The show hasn't worked but I am inclined to blame management more than them. Dean's recent Breakfast covers have shown that he has more potential than some of us gave credit.
  24. You’d guess he will also be full time Breakfast stand-in now which is probably a good trade off.
  25. I imagine Early Breakfast is interfering with her DJ career which seems to be booming.
