  1. Makes sense I think its the thing that I’ve never made much sense of radio being a big thing on television sets not with since the rise of smart speakers in peoples homes that they no longer have to be reliant on a television set or a radio with the signal of the station. It may have been handy with places where couldnt pick up stations on DAB or FM in area and signal was crackly but dont think many people have a traditional television set up of aerial and cable programming through wires and boxes all apps and that and that is what BBC has managed to successfully delivering with Sounds available on smart televisions and boxes excluding Apple TV boxes.
  2. Seems with Tony Blackburn’s Sound of Soul and Clash of the pirates may be a good pull for the stations elder demographics and if marketed correctly could be something to attract listeners of Boom Radio for a couple of hours.
  3. Are they filming new series right now? They only just had her finale of the last series.
  4. Yes, although I don’t think Radio 2 would happen for a few more years but any freelance broadcasting and exploring passion projects and some other television work and travelling. I think for some weekend afternoons isn’t going to be attractive to a presenter who could get the highest wages and and high profile slots. I see for presenters like Roman would use it as the socialising time of the week.
  5. Yes, especially when weekend afternoons on most radio stations never is where a big audience is for radio listeners its a more leisurely and casual time of the week on radio and most stations keep it as very playlist heavy with casual conversation
  6. They really turning it into a hotbed of comedic talent which feels at odds to what its audience wants of its station with Graham Norton and Paul O’Grady having previous television careers much like Claudia Winkleman before she joined. But now with Romesh joining from later this spring taking over from Claudia, Michelle Visage, Angela Griffin, Rylan, Rob Beckett as people known for being television names that are regular positioned on the station. You do have the vacancy of Steve Wright’s Sunday Love Songs and whether they decide to retain the ‘Sunday Love Song’ programme or launch something different later this spring or summer.
  7. I mean with Vicky and Nat’s weekend show there will be guaranteed with Dean on early breakfast that every day of the week there will be content coming from Salford and that includes Victoria Jane’s programme also now got programming from Cardiff and wouldn’t be surprised if they would launch shows featured across Radio 1 and 2 coming from Glasgow any time after this year.
  8. I mean that bit later and condensed into an hour they seemed to include a lot more chat and really had it with a theme to each episodes I kind of think that they used to have weeks where they’d have a more thematic look at one issue that is relevant to its audience. Plus when it was on Sunday/Wednesday they used to have a chance to talk about more mature topics that if you are driving with kids in the car on a sunday afternoon or having it on in the kitchen it allowed for some less family friendly conversations and some scheduled organised phone-calls not an open free for all but some greater level of audience interaction which under the brand they could do on and off air whether they could do like what Newscast has done and launch a discord server or use a WhatsApp channel to produce extra interactive content and livestream Q&A across social media channels. There’s a very Gen Z social media multi-media approach that can be taken to lament the influence of information and education by the stations brands with using the content from Newsbeat and Lifehacks across social media.
  9. I mean effectively it could’ve been seen as a sunday-Thursday drivetime programme,
  10. Given her training in mental health councelling would like to see Katie Thistleton doing some special programming under the Lifehacks show brand which could easily be extended to digital content included on social media channels with return of the podcast show across all podcasting platforms with contributions from the newsbeat team involved to do some reports on relevant issues. Think they could look to other multi-media formats where social media and podcasting could engage the more informative and educational elements of the stations public service information for its targeted youth audience.
  11. I there is something to be said about how with radio and reality television like Made In Chelsea that with reality show like that its a semi-scripted and planned persona to play a soap character version of yourself make yourself more entertaining. But with radio it’s such a contrastingly different medium as your job is to have a conversation with the listener and create a sense of intimacy.
  12. I think if you were to go up and ask people what the second biggest time slot on radio it does depends on the station of course like talk based radio stations like LBC morning and mid mornings are the highest time slots to the ratings of Nick Farrari and James O’Brien but for mainstream music stations Radio X, Capital, Radio 1, 2, Capital Dance … it’s something i think people respect as the second largest time-slot as radio on picking children up on the school run going back from work in the kitchen. So theres a logical explaination for those who think about radio beyond flicking it on and just listening to it. The persona doesn’t help because on stations like Radio 1 if you are playing a persona and creating a character that gives a false pretence to what you know and try to be different to how you normally are listeners pick up and wont buy it if you aren’t being natural
  13. They spent tow years in the slot had Aled wanted to and management and commission would they would’ve retained this daytime programme so can’t imagine this was always the plan but rather pulling out and drafting a different plan. To an extent I think it’s tough to see the direction and vision of why and what is being done. I feel at this point the station needs new management and feels like management should be a five year term for a station like Radio 1.
  14. I think where as for when Nick Grimshaw took over from Greg James and then Vick and Jordan from Grimmy they had a longer period of time between their last show on their previous slot to their new drive time show, more likely fresh production and time to do some not to broadcast pilots and brainstorm new ideas. It’s all come out fast and messy and seems like they didn’t give themselves time to produce a new drivetime show or didn’t use time wisely. If Jamie Laing doesnt work out and doesn’t sign a contract atleast a Vick & Katie show would work without having to focus on yet again re-shuffling programming on the station, yet again.
  15. I think Mollie King started of good with an initial five week stint as it almost seemed that hadn’t Mollie King been someone that could work well permanently it would’ve continued to have the Matt Edmonson & friends feel and pairing with different names as he did with Scarlette Moffat and Example. She quickly worked well as she had the impression she was learning on the job and wasn’t slacking or phoning it in. Where as with Jamie Laing he seems to be doing the equivalent of track suit and sliders to a business board meeting. Mollie has shown as someone who had listened to the station long before she joined and researched and always well prepared when Jamie didn’t seem to do his homework.
  16. I think could least be aware to what he has signed up for and have a clue what is going on
  17. I find he has a good personality for doing stuff that isn’t just music it’s his super enthusiastic ADHD energy. He seems to have an authentic natural sense of humour and empathy and interest in his fans. I think with Future Sounds interim period between Annie and Clara was good to have him and Charli XCX each do a week as I’m a fan of artists getting a short stint at playing the music they are influenced by and the music they are loving a listening to. Do think that Radio 1 should have it’s own version of the Artist In Residency that 6 Music does as after Becky Hill doing a good job on Dance Party over Christmas. Having an artist selecting songs over an hour per week for a month would make for good BBC Sounds content.
  18. Yes it’s Katie’s first time with having her name above the drive time door so yes. Also with access all apps it’s sounds like he never heard of the feature. Think if like joined the station which many people who want to get into the radio industry and make it national its a station that they wish to aspire to.
  19. which I think making it about himself and what the listeners have criticised his position as a co-host of the new drive show that could give that impression of him being out of touch and cringingly name dropping plus the fact he didn’t know the start time and the size of audience even if it. Was said in jest doesn’t help him on the show.
  20. I mean for being booked on as a cover presenter or presenting for as someone that is filling a specific time slot before a permanent decision is made like Danny Beard and Martha.
  21. Does feel odd not having a contract as of yet and was announced as a permanent presenter. Is Jamie Laing on trial and they making it possible if he doesn’t work out he wouldn’t be on the contracted pay roll.

    Jamie Lang

I think Matt has done various co-hosts for few set of weeks and a week and more permanently with Mollie King of course but Rylan, Example, Scarlette Moffat and Jamie Laing possibly one off with Alice Levine. Chris Stark so he is very experienced working with other presenters and how to maker it work. Working in television sure he might’ve co-hosted with Rylan yes possibly another presenter but requires to interact with multiple personalities and can lend bit of handy experience. It helps that with Matt Edmonson’s experience at that point he had been on the station for some time and is one of the stations most capable and talented presenters seems to have a lot ideas, knows how to keep things professional on its feet deal with any challenges and mishaps and is ready to get involved and work out the tone for the moment. He has been good when he has had to deal with more sensitive and difficult moments like Annie Nightingale’s passing. I feel he was the right presenter to take mollie under his wing and has helped in the success of her broadcasting career.
  23. I kind of think the next presenter of afternoons on weekends needs to be a solo presenter. Aled needs to wean listeners of becoming too custom of hearing their radio dj’s hands being held.
  24. Since they could do some live non-simulcasted content it would be good to have Arielle Free maybe doing Tuesday and Wednesday editions of her new dance show on Radio 1 Dance or have an exclusive content role on it.
