  1. I’ve found the jingles are annoying and going to grate on the listener quickly. It’s a good opening week with big name hottest records and sessions
  2. All most definitely unlikely. Although Radio 2 has BBC One personalities like Romesh Ranganathan, Angela Griffin, Paddy McGuiness and cover presenters including Nicky Chapman and Alex Jones. BBC One covers sport programming that can be airing on BBC 5 Live and has news coverage that doesn’t match BBC Radio 2 and has broadcasted special radio 1 programming. BBC Two covers more music than BBC One and featured special session programmes for Radio 2 that have been filmed and repeated on TV and 2 have covered the proms aired documentaries that appeal to a BBC Radio 4 audience. Think the television channels don’t simply match the radio stations to make a whole brand BBC could easily create a youth brand that allows for multi-media content to exist on both IPlayer and Sounds as would do with BBC Fresh and would do with new IPlayer guidance audience rating systems but as a digital brand. Currently the issue is that a lot of the BBC Three stuff is what aired a few days ago on BBC One or old stuff like Gavin and Stacey and Top Gear that don’t think interest the youth audience that station like Radio 1 is going for. I think a lot of the older stuff on BBC Three or that was on BBC Three like over eight years ago should just be in the comedy, drama, documentary categories and having a Fresh on IPlayer and Fresh on Sounds brand could be more logistical to show the newer things that feel culturally relevant to younger millennials to Gen Z and Gen A in a new to new-ish and trending strategy.
  3. I think the BBC would be desperate to avoid this as this would cause anger and confusion for listeners I’d atleast have a BBC News Radio and BBC Sports Radio killing off the ‘5Live brand’ for more streamlined news coverage axing any phone in shows that focus on topical news discussion. I’d have regional variations of the BBC News and Sports radio stations with majority of the time simulcasting a national news and sport feed but bringing regular local news and sport bulletins and special news coverage and broadcasting of local sport. With a BBC World News station replacing the World Service brand in the U.K for 24/7 dedicated focus on international news being capable to do live breaking news stories and more coverage of international elections and politics. I’d have BBC Radio 1 Dance to be simply BBC Dance or other names like BBC Radio Dance or Dance or sounds something that had a less youth focus that could target and attract dance and electronic programming listeners from 6 Music and Radio 2 with shows for Sherelle and other archive content from the BBC archives and new commissioned programmes. I’d launch a BBC Global Sounds station globally in partners with other international broadcasters it partners with the EBU and stations that Radio 1 Dance has teamed up for Europes biggest night in dances they have done. Giving access to programming produced by the BBC and its partners as a showcase of a global music scene beyond the U.K with showcasing some of BBC’s music programmes from Music Planet (Radio 3), AfroSounds with DJ Edu (R1X), Jamz Supernova (R6M) and Gilles Peterson (R6M), Asian Networks Global Beats (AN). This station would highlight the global diversity of music, arts and culture from across the globe made available in the same means as World Service is across the globe. Replacing the non-news content found on Radio 4 would be BBC Sounds Showcase a digital service reflecting how the broadcaster is going to promote their non-news radio 4 programmes in podcast format for BBC Sounds. BBC 6 Music would simply become simply become BBC Music with two sister stations one BBC New Music which would bridge between specialist music targeted to the youth demographic on Radio 1 with programmes from Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri to Tom and Deb from 6 Music. Second sister station would be BBC Music Introducing playing only artists that are supported by BBC Introducing or have been on BBC Introducing with mix of the regional and national shows. Radio 1 becomes BBC Fresh as the new BBC youth brand with sister station fresh Fresh Xtra or Fresh X for short being a station for music and culture targeted to young people from minority communities and cultures Radio 2 comes BBC Radio 1 with BBC Radio 1’s sister station launching as Radio 1 Extra targeting the elder demographic of Radio 1 Xtra’s audience with inclusion of other genres like jazz, ska, golden age hip-hop, blues, soul and funk. BBC Radio 3 would become BBC Symphony with a sister station BBC Symphony Showcase with more focus on new and contemporary classical music. BBC local brands and Asian networks brands remain unchanged.
  4. That or Connor Coates or Charlie Tee. If there is a specific designated live dance show across digital radio and BBC Sounds able to be plugged into cars, at home and in public spaces which are how Radio 1’s listeners mostly listen to the station live that isn’t a simulcast. The station could consider to not play many dance tracks in that morning slot to give distinctions between the two programmes. It would be interesting if this could also be the time where Charlie Hedges leaves Rickie and Melvin to become the DJ for this morning show with Rickie & Melvin for weekend afternoons and something different for mid-mornings all together on the flagship 1 station
  5. This seems a lot to ask for people to set up on a digital forum. Don’t think that any of us are close to Scott where we could set up. I also think it may not be the best to say ‘crazy for’ a celebrity. It’s not for any of us to do even if we had contacts with Scott and that should be a part of a boundary for this forum and allowing Scott a sense of privacy.
  6. Sounds like good fun to watch if true

    5 Live turns 30

I suppose when comes to radio you have to step up the commentary than tv as with TV you don’t have to paint that picture and visualise for the listener what is happening.
  8. Yes, to be honest it’s where the BBCs faults lie thinking they have to be in competition with their commercial rivals. But I do think Jordan on capital brings bigger competition and rivalry as he comes across more relatable and down to earth than James. Sometimes think Greg James can almost be forcing a sense of humour and entertainment.
  9. I mean with a death of someone in the immediate circle of the royal family as happened with Phillip and the Queen died the station became a news service effectively so had already been excused from that as meeting that quota in that time.
  10. I think my post said how it would be likely the end of it as Greg is concerned. its exactly right that we could a,, fall foul in saying something that once broadcasted that is received as socially unacceptable in regards of where a minority group in society is involved. With this Greg having made a one off error in lanaugage choice could involve himself in the conversation of learning what language should we used around disabling characteristics and other disability terms. In a moment of error like this when recognising the reception from public and apologising theres an opportunity where the person this case Greg James could use that error for something good.
  11. Yes, I do think on socia;l media theres that mentality still there. I do think on social media theres a bit of an on-line wolf whistle from when I see people talking about Maya. I think that there still is a thing in the TV where people who are seen as good looking are more likely to get jobs.
  12. In all honesty didn’t mind her as much on the radio. I find she was more preferable on radio than television. I find she doesn’t quite fit the TV world and find most often when she is on television most viewers objectify her and is based on her looks rather than her as a presenter found she wasn’t too over bearing or in your face. I didn’t mind listening to her while completing my A-Level art work.
  13. He made the comment that is undeniable but I believe the motive wasn’t to cause offence but being naive. It’s something that is uncharacteristic and he has apologised for the comment. There maybe a recommendation of a diversity training course of some sort. If there is more dont think it will be about Greg himself but the publication and the project of Puffin books.
  14. I think ultimately the publisher of the new Roald Dahl inspired stories taking off from the Twits. Knowing that the language that the words used in the orignial stories wouldn’t feel appropriate to an audience in 2024 with different societal tolerance to ableist and anti-Semitic. Language has been played out in the media in recent years as his books have been debated in the trivial culture war article pieces in the papers. it was something that I would’ve thought Greg would’ve foreseen how it sounded. If I was Greg to avoid any controversies in the publication of the story. I’d ask for it to be pulled from the book or ask for any authorship credentials to be removed from the collations of stories. It’s something that the publisher will have some work to do.
  15. I respect and accept Greg’s apology although its not an apology to me as I don’t have a disability where I have a prosthetic eye I don’t think it is poor him as he is the one that made a controversial ableist comment using negative language towards a disabled person. I’m glad that Greg has taken personal accountability. Considering that the characters that Roald Dahl has written and stories have connotations of forms of racism including anti-semtism, ableism and body shaming think there is more at fault at the publisher. I think there doesn’t need to be new stories and expansions on Dahl’s work when people have choice to read Dahl’s stories but in creating new stories and books think time we can move on on from such means of writing characters.
  16. I think had Danny been booked as a one off or co-host for only a weekends worth of shows it would’ve been fine. I can see how Aled would want to book them to show commitment to supporting queer and non-binary talent from the queer community and culture scene. But over the years of take-overs there are many good talented LGBTQ+ in the radio industry. Just want to politely remind that their pronouns are they/them.
  17. Airing old Top Gear, Masterchef, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of crisps, Gavin and Stacey re-runs of the Gladiators and The Apprentice. Atleast most of its tv output I dont see BBC Three as much of a youth channel as a Gen Z’er. I think when it comes to its terrestrial channel output it will become smaller choice of channels and think the flagship channels could go back to how they started as the main BBC One as showcase of the BBC at its best and if it were down to me I’d have the Mercury Prize and the Proms on BBC One with BBC Two being the extra station and with it being less generational dividies. I dont see why they cant put live coverage of Big Weekend and other events that Radio 1 cover across BBC One in more prime time positions not late and off-peak.
  18. If people want music content they have the option of BBC Two and it has worked well for BBC Four to host repeats of Top Of The Pops. I feel with the demise of music channels on television. There’s only a small volume of hours a major tv network could dedicate for music content to make a sustainable audience to give a sense of value to its commission. If even looking at the Radio 1 IPlayer channel they don’t feature all the latest live lounges for videos and for those who wish to watch performances are likely to go to youtube. I do think the BBC should be a culture passport to showcase unique and original content but think it should be apart of the flagship channels.
  19. Yes, and although how much I do love BBC radio many radio devices within my house have only been able to recieve BBC DAB stations and not its commercial third party rivals. I think it comes down to size and reach of audiences and something that ahead of the next BBC charter review. There maybe enquiries into where do radio 1 listeners listen to the station and looking at the size of FM listening to see the future of FM.
  20. I had the feeling and knew before hand that bringing BBC Three wouldn’t work going back on terrestrial linear broadcast again after its initial closure in 2016. As the audience that it was targeting in the 00s and early 10s now become the working adult generation that BBC One and Two now are to cater for. Most people craved the nostalgia from the programming it had years ago which can get across varying BBC owned networks and on IPlayer and UKTV Pay and in cases due to the legacy of BritBox ITVX. There wasn’t enough new BBC Three content to merit opening the channel back on TV and not enough new stuff being commissioned now most nights it’s littered with repeats and the IPlayer section designated feels sparse and features lot of international series like of The Traitors. They could’ve continued with having the post ten o’clock news on BBC One showcasing content commissioned for young adults as had done when BBC Three was a BBC IPlayer channel exclusively.
  21. I do think BBC Three needs to go back off air yet again and maybe the BBC should consider scrapping the brand and creating a new brand for programming that targets young and diverse audiences under 40 who are seen as digital natives with consideration of adopting more clear guidance of age-ratings and audience suitability communications which could make documentaries on misogyny, mental health and like Jordan North’s new vaping doc with taking out older programmes of two pints of larger and packet of crisps out of that section and making it easier to include CBBC programming under a new brand. I think Radio 1 could easily go off FM by 2027 and focus on DAB or most importantly BBC Sounds and digital content and maybe making way for the BBC to potentially replace that with a rebrand of 5 Live’s remit of live rolling news coverage and sport that isn’t provided by Radio 4. In future see FM as something that will be most of use for essential and urgent information.
  22. I wonder if it could be closing in mid-summer in few weeks to months when they can make a public announcement on the new proposed digital stations and the switch over of the changes in daytime programmes. The announcement of decommissioning the online station and brand was done very quietly through confirmation from Jess Izsatt’s post on X. Yet to be a further press release confirming such details of whether certain programmes apart of the brand like Power Down Playlist. Maybe likely working through the contracts of programmes agreed by presenters and producers commissioned to make Radio 1 Relax content and developing and working on commissioning new programmes that would fill scheduling gaps.
  23. I think you made the point I can only but agree with you. I knew you weren’t trying to personally highlighting certain artists in a negative tone but using them to make a greater point that needed to be made in regards to biases in the selection of new artists or not as chart dominant. But it’s something that when comes to artists and tracks supported on ‘Future’ and specialist programmes it doesn’t really trickle and feed down to the A-C daytime schedule which is where big impact is made. I think if they do complete the consultation phase and it proves a success to go through with being able to launch an ‘Anthems’ station focusing on music of the 00’s and the 10’s. At that point it should be time to consider extending the amount of songs in its playlist. Hopefully then the flagship to the ‘1’ brand can reflect more of new music featuring new artists in it’s playlist when have a station under the brand that plays music preceding the last five years.
  24. Yes, he’s good when I’ve seen him on TV on different shows but doesn’t have the same effect as radio. It would’ve given a sense of continuity and stability to have the changes to afternoons and early mornings coming in the same time as the changes to the evening line-up.
  25. I do like Cat Burns but it’s a good point about the many artists on future artists and other specialist shows. If they manage to launch the ‘Anthems’ like sister station hope they make changes to the stations playlist.
