On the subject of GHR and Mark Goodier, he's moving to mid mornings on the weekend. He'll also be the main cover for Ken.
Needed since the sudden sacking of Pat Sharp, of course!

Gary Davies/ R2 knocking it out of the park this morning - New quiz has more intrigue/ jeopardy to it than PopMaster ...
By the time KB re-starts, he'll be presenting a stale-sounding quiz, surrounded by a stale selection of records - "You've dropped a bollock here, mate!" ........
-
Will be interesting to hear how Gary Davies handles the slot tomorrow ~ Bearing in mind that, at this stage, Mark Goodier over on GHR is no competition at all ...
-
I wonder if Gary Davies has been told not to make too good a job of his Interim shows ...
-
I somehow missed his stint on R1 - What was he like on there?

As said on 'Friday Night Radio' forum, for those of us who aren't that taken with dance music, it can all get a bit too much on a Friday. The litmus test for me is 'Can this presenter retain my interest, even in something I'm not otherwise passionate about?' Craig Charles certainly meets that test, in his Funk & Soul Show on 6Music ~ and I'd given Pete Tong a whirl if he didn't start so late ....

I have to give a tip-of-the-hat to Majestic on Kiss - A couple of good features (including highlighting an 'under the radar' act) made it a cut above the ordinary ...

Just finished Grimmy's book and found it an interesting read. Any other books from the radio world you'd recommend?
I have four ~ 'The Nation's Favourite' by Simon Garfield, 'How To Make Great Radio' by David Lloyd, 'Pop Pickers & Music Vendors' by John Van Der Kiste and 'The Radio Companion' by Paul Donovan.

The more I think about this, the more I think how it could go very wrong - on both sides of the equation ...
.. For example, GHR would be well-advised to make at least the first hour of KB's show advert-free - They could be a real source of annoyance to those who have enjoyed him for years, otherwise ,,,

What's wrong with them? Quite regular for the station. It's also no different to when you get nonsense songs like that one about Blackberry Phones requested on 10 Minute Takeover or others on Something Songs.
Each one was preceded by a track of timeless brilliance (Good Vibrations, and Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing).
These juxtapositions just broke me.
I'll try one more week ...

I've officially binned Sara Cox tonight - 'Everything Is Awesome' and 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' in the same hour - Beyond appalling ....

But also like 6 Music’s People Party with Afrodeutche if I turn on the radio.
Tried - But always some godawful noise of a track thrown in, just as I'm starting to relax into it ...

Followed him for more years than I care to add up - From Radio Luxembourg onwards! ... His Virgin 2015 show (where he played maybe 3 or 4 music tracks an hour) was a great format - Not something we're ever likely to see again, in these days of 'narrow-casting' ..
-
I'm sorted at 9pm, with the only show of interest to me on Boom (The 70's Hour), then the comedic rantings of Nick Abbot on LBC at 10pm .... But, as for before then ...Keep those suggestions coming, folks!

Who knows.. maybe there is something in it
Oh Gawd, I hope not ... Edith Bowman was great doing 'Sounds Of The 80's' last night, so gave me a glimmer of hope for Oooo Gary Davies to get the daytime gig ........
-
Well I'm glad there's someone else who finds it tricky! - Might have to do the Sara Cox thing - looking at the last lot of tunes from 6pm now, and it doesn't look too heinous ...

What do folks on here listen to on a Friday evening ??
I quite like Dance music, but not that much - And Friday seems to be overwhelmed with the stuff, whichever way you turn ....

Apparently they intended to renew his contract
The Comments section is hilarious - They are torn between decrying the 'death' of Radio 2, and decrying Ken Bruce himself for being a wimp with his 'unloved' comment ...

Its kind of like the angle Radio 2 are at right now, the same as that DJ at that party. Can you carry on playing music to a generation that isn't around to hear it anymore?
Can - and should (on the radio, that is) - Absolute 40's was an absolute joy.

Also a show playing 1950s music is unheared of nowdays. Can't be many who listened to that back in 2011 still about...
Good question ~ I think Mark Lammar would be able to ignite many people's interest, even today ...

May be a risk but Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley on the old 2!? I can dream...
Take a look at a 2011 R2 Schedule, to see what a thing of wonder it was ...

.... The bigger question to consider is some of the names mentioned, would they even want to do it? Dermot, Rylan, Claudia, Vernon all have TV gigs... so might not want to juggle both.
Gary Davies it is, then! (no bad thing).

Rylan is the obvious poor choice - such a culture shock from Ken.....
Now the 'Gammons' really would be fuming at that - I hope that doesn't spur the decision-makers on to do it! - Because, yes, it would be awful.

Of course, if the Beeb were to adopt my idea of an R1-R2-6Music Simulcast Breakfast Show, hosted by Greg, then he wouldn't be "sacked" at all ..... (Note - Not suggesting this is even a remote possibility - doesn't stop it being a great idea, though) .....
Wnat would your Radio 1 Schedule be?
in BBC Radio 1

I don't have a complete list in mind, but:
I'd have Greg James do a R1-R2-6Music Simulcast Breakfast Show,
I'd stick The Rock Show in between two Dance shows on a Friday (to break things up a bit),
I'd give Sian Eleri her own live, 2-hour Late Show,
and I'd try out some alternatives to Jack and Clara on the weekday evening slots (in different ways, they're both too 'caffeinated' for me for PM - although, puzzlingly, Jack does seem capable of a more 'measured' tone on the Indie Show ...)
Oh, and 'BBC Introducing' shouldn't be shoved away as an after-thought last thing on a Sunday, either ...
