  1. Speaking of voiceovers, one of the V2 NMF has crept into Cel Spellman's new shows, which are 'R1's Best New Pop' and 'R1's Most Played.' It will be interesting how they treat the different set of voiceovers in the future, I bet the V1 NMF voiceovers will eventually be the main station package with the V2 NMF becoming the main NMF voiceovers (They sort are already) and the current general voiceovers kissing goodbye to R1 completely.
  2. Well blow me back but the R1 Best New Pop show actually is interesting. Future hits and new artists, heard The Tide and Nathan Sykes, artists who never get played during daytime.
  3. I see that Cel Spellman's show is being screwed around with from this week. The Number 1 Show is no more with it being replaced with R1 Most Played from 6pm and there is a brand new show called R1's Best New Pop. I wonder what everyone thinks of this? Personally I really don't think we need yet another most played show as we already have one for the evening show, quite like the idea about R1's Best New Pop show although wouldn't it be better for any other DJ on R1 just to play all this stuff? Think Cel's show is a waste of time really...
  4. Agree, I'm starting to get fed up of them bashing some of the power intros for weeks. Take 'Fade' for example, they have included that song in the TOTH/BOTH power intro treatment so much now, it seems like an overkill. Surely you would look at other songs on the playlist to get the power intro treatment rather than having the likes of Fade, Ain't Giving Up, A Head Full Of Dreams, My Way, & The Greatest constantly taking over the TOTH/BOTH. Looking at the current playlist, I haven't heard any power intros done done for Chase & Status, Crystal Fighters, Giggs, GoldLink, James TW, James Arthur, Sampha, Sean Paul, Shawn Mendes, Sundara Karma, Tom Odell & Usher. Surely some of these would get a power intros considering some of the above have been on the playlist for a while, but no they waste the chance by using the above on repeat. Hopefully though this Friday we will have a themed power intro day as it's the Teen Awards this Sunday, could be a great chance for old songs to get a power intro treatment.
  5. Has anyone noticed the fact that some of the new/redone power intros are debuted on a weekend rather than a Friday, Last saturday I heard a redone power intro of Ex's & Oh's which I never heard on any of the Friday's. It seems odd that they are debuting these on a weekend when normally Friday is the first place to hear these.
  6. I'm not sure at the above schedule and I will tell you why the main reason, the rumours about 1Xtra... If 1Xtra does get the chop then I can't see everyone from 1Xtra just being dumped, it would surely be practical to bring some of the presenters over to R1. So the question is that who would move and who would get the chop from R1/1Xtra? I agree about Matt moving to Monday-Friday, 1-4pm, I think Scott's R1 days will start to end sooner than everyone would thought, Chris Stark will probably stay though. Clara I'm not sure about but she will most likely live on and so will Grimmy. I am however uncertain about Greg James, mainly because of the fact he is being linked to BT Sport's Australian Cricket coverage so he might end up leaving early as well. For weekends, if 1Xtra does shut then I think it would be good the fill the weekend slot with 1Xtra presenters. I think Dev will go and be replaced by Ace and Nick Bright replaces Matt Edmondson in his 10am-1pm. I'm not sure about Alice because if Greg leaves then she would be in contention for replacing Greg, if she does go to weekdays then I think Adele will move to Alice's spot and Jordan North takes over the early morning show. So at the moment I'm thinking... 4am-6:30am: Jordan North, 6:30am-10am: Nick Grimshaw, 10am-1pm: Clara Amfo, 1pm-4pm: Matt Edmondson, 4pm-7pm: Alice Levine And on weekends.... 6am-10am: Ace, 10am-1pm: Nick Bright, 1pm-4pm: Adele Roberts, 4pm-7pm: (Sundays) ?
  7. I'll think they will decrease it than increase it, 15-25 would be more likely in the future. The R1 Breakfast show has had its target audience cut to under 25's so partly that's the reason why they could drop their target audience. I'll think whatever way they do though they are going to lose ratings. If they drop the audience then all the older listeners will drag their way to Radio 2/Heart, if they increase the audience then I could see more chance of younger viewers driving away to Capital, KISS or even 1Xtra.
  8. Well considering that PURE Jingles seems to think it's in-house and the job description on the BBC seems to back it up, so it looks like it's more of a in-house move.. I suppose it would be expensive for an outsource production to produce, but at the same I would have thought it would be just as expensive for the BBC to produce a package, although you are probably right about having a smaller team. I suppose that would save costs a bit. It also mentions 'Dance Anthems With Greg James'. Is that getting new imaging as well or am I looking too much into it? I would have also thought that if Greg's DA's shows would get new imaging I would have thought Danny Howard's show would get them as well?
  9. There still seems to be a mix of V1/V2 NMF voiceovers plus current general voiceovers on the power intros today, a new male voiceover as well today on the 'Freedom' power intro. After feeling unsure of the male voiceover last week, I have now settled into the V2 voiceovers which I have now grown to like! I presume when we get more songs that get the power intro treatment in the future will use the V2 voiceovers and that the V1 VO's will be dropped leaving just the general package and the V2 voiceovers in the future. Again some songs which got the power intro treatment before got a remake with the V2 voiceovers, although it seemed a bit pointless to revert to the V1 'Twice' power intro despite receiving a V2 treatment last week. I did like how they auto-tuned 'Where It Begins' into the 'King' power intro. Also I emailed PURE Jingles about the power intros, they actually game me an answer. They claim the power intros might be an in-house production which seems a bit odd considering the BBC are supposed to be 'cost-cutting' and yet they are spending money on this. Still, good job by them on the V2 power intros so far!
  10. Soundbite for people to hear: (2:07:10 if you want hear the voiceovers) http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07vwfns Get in quick before discount ends. Also I emailed On The Sly to see if they were behind the jingles, their answer?... Just links to other packages.
  11. I'm going to disagree here. It's best sometimes to have variety so I think that's what R1 are trying to do, the more voiceovers/producers, the more variety and fresher it can sound. I thought I would post my opinion on the new voiceovers which was regularly heard on Friday, I am a massive fan of the 2 female voiceovers. One of them has been a regular for several weeks but it was the other's first time on the power intros, (Can anyone confirm that one of the voiceovers was Holly Meyrick? It sounded like her but I need someone to double check.. ) I'm not sure on the male voiceover.. Feels like the male sounds like someone better suited for promos rather than power intros. Anyway the current NMF voiceovers are great, the new ones heard on Friday take it ever further. Tease further R1...
  12. I suppose they are trying different things out to keep everything fresh and sounding good. For me if you want a power intro to sound like perfection then you need eventually update things. The first bunch of NMF voiceovers have been used for 6 months so far, which is quite a long time and using the same lot for a while makes it age quicker than just a general package. It seems like now we are entering V2 of the power intro era with new voiceovers and remakes of songs which have have received the power intro treatment before. I agree with Ant about some power intros being edited, I quite like the Ellie 'Auto-Tuned Goulding' power intro which then got edited to just a female voiceover announcing.. The same can be said for the 'Sucker For Pain' and 'The Greatest' power intros which gets an edit with a current everyday VO, I'm surprised to see Alice's opinion on a power intro change things.
  13. 2 new voiceovers I have heard today on NMF. The first one is defently a VO from the 2012-14 package, sounds like Holly Meyrick which is great if true. That makes it the second 2012 voiceover I've heard on the Power Intro package. The second one is a male VO on the 'Blow Your Mind (Mwah)' Power Intro, sadly I don't recognise the voice so for me it's an all new voiceover. I've noticed some things today, the new 2012-14 VO I have heard today is mainly paired with the female residency and R1 sound like they are re-doing old Power Intros. Interesting times ahead...
  14. We might see more of Alice or Dev in an interesting development of Mr Greg James himself presenting BT's coverage of Australian Cricket: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3799171/Fury-pay-cut-cancer-victim-Supporters-Direct-furore-Jon-Moss-Anthony-Taylor-s-dinner-appearance-rumbles-on.html Although this is Charles Sale so he can be easily wrong.
  15. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/sep/19/bbc-radio-1-aims-to-be-netflix-of-music-radio-with-phone-first-strategy What they mean by a 'Phone-First' strategy is technically making more on-demand programming, 25 hours worth according to the article.
  16. Just listened and yes I agree, it does sound like her, we might now then have a current female in the new package then although I ain't going to speak too soon. I going to place my bets on the new package coming in/after the R1 Teens Awards.
  17. Hearing a new voiceover today, it's a female on the Sucker For Pain power intro and I never heard her before on any of the power intros.
  18. Another thing I have to point out is the scheduling. Clara will be out in LA but won't be hosting her show from there, instead Annie Mac will be sitting in for Clara on the 31st-2nd September at 10am-12:45pm. I'm suprised the likes of Jordan North or Nick Bright can't cover, it means Annie will be both doing double shift's those days.
  19. I seem to recall a twitter comment saying R1 having power intro's in the 90's, not sure if that's true though as I haven't listened to 90's R1. Hopefully the new imaging is fully phased in by the end of the year, defently think we will hear more of it during the Summer Mixes.
  20. Damn you should have included that awesome Major Lazer-Light It Up power intro, probably one of my best. The last couple of NMF power intros have been getting better each week, as a suggestion I think they should include more voices rather than just the current NMF voices.
  21. I believe in some of the power intros there was the odd 'IT'S FRIIIDAY' mentions but yeah, no direct mentions to New Music Friday. Just to clarify with the new package rolling out this year, I assume Newsbeat and the Charts would have some updates as well to it's imaging? I remember during the 'Listen, Watch, Share' era of Newsbeat that when the new package fully launched the only change that it had was the updated voiceovers and nothing else if I'm correct?
  22. https://purejingles.com/station/bbc-radio-1/ Interesting to see a visual package for the first time in a while for R1... Also some new sounds mixed in here as well so looks like this is the future direction for PURE Jingles
  23. Ok speculation time.. With NMF imaging now being rolled out on non-Friday's, perhaps the current package is being scraped before August... You mentioned at the start of this thread that one of the current voiceovers tweeted that he was recording more voiceovers, do you think that's been scraped?
  24. I just thought I post this but here's an archive of all summer mixes last year: https://archive.org/details/BBCRadio1SummerMixes2015 (This is not mine, it's by a user called manuedit) Don't this is returning this year, perhaps something different? They might as well turn this into a full summer station..
  25. Agree with OohErr, the Imaging is brilliant and the power intros are addictive to listen to but I like it more than the actual feature. Looks like NMF will be temporary suspended tomorrow, they suspended it for Big Weekend so I wouldn't be surprised if they did for Glastonbury.
