Ooh that's a very good variety this year and I think one of the better Chrsitmas schedules that Radio 1 have put out. Looking forward to Scott's and Chris's Chrsitmas Bangers show and the return of the Chart Of The Year however surely it's and end of an era with Scott & Chris not on Chrsitmas breakfast.

Does anyone else feel that Radio 1 need to broaden their target audience?  As of now it is 15-29 but being 26 myself currently,  I can't see myself switching to another station as my main preference within the next 5 years.  I think 15-35 would be a lot better.
Anyone listening beyond 29?

I think my theory just gained traction.
Why I hear you ask?
Well my friends, Scott and Chris were talking last week about a certain Mr Banana who Scott had some kind of relationship with. A listener texted in and implied that Mr Banana worked on the show, to which Scott responded the they definitely don't - which The One That Doesn't Speak doesn't... anymore. 
But the clincher - TOTDS left the Scott Mills show to go set up his own company, called... 
BANANA Stand Productions. 
Q.E.D.
(Bloody hell, this is some writing worthy of Popbitch - although TOTDS, if you're reading this it's a groundless and untrue claim and please don't sue me I'm poor)

I think the issue with this package is that it sounds far too generic and like it could have been slapped together in Audacity. It could even be a template. The big mash up of sound effects and punchy noises is genuinely too confusing in the morning, and it's not distancing itself enough from commercial breakfast radio anymore. 
The Breakfast Show only has one feature now, and many commercial shows are similar. I think it either needs to be really tight or quite loose, not halfway inbetween. 
I'm switching to Radio X.

15 year old's and below aren't interested in Radio. They've grown up with ipods, and youtube and spotify and therefore never had to use Radio like we did in the 90's and early 2000's.
 
They hire out one of the studio's at a station I'm at, for students from the uni to use on media courses. Just last week I chatted to the tutor who was overseeing a few students recording demo's etc. And he told me that they didn't know the difference between Radio 1 & Radio 4. One told him they had actually never listened to Radio 1 at any point in their life, incredible considering what they are studying.
 
But it goes to show Radio 1 is facing a lost battle with trying to pull in children as listeners. If they are going to go anywhere it's Capital as they hardly talk and play the same 15 songs back to back.

Yet again Radio 1 have shot themselves in the foot. With the constant messy selection of old and new power intros played throughout the day with the 2014 package, this has now added further fuel to the fire. It sounds completely awful and yes, definitely like Kiss or Capital.
I cannot believe they have ditched the Wise Buddah theme for this tosh, especially as the BBC philharmonic orchestra helped to compose the theme. That branding was fine, it was at its best when it first started out in 2012.
Like many, I can't wonder how long Grimmy's got left. A part of me wishes he'd go now, if he's thinking he can match Moyles' 8 years he can think again, as Moyles is probably sitting at Radio X laughing his head off with Dom, discussing this on-air on early mornings!
"Youre listening to Grimmy, Grimmy, Grimmy." Yes we know.

Can't see him on Radio 2 though. Only time will tell.

Nah not a chance. He was at Heart when it first launched, and he said in an interview a while back (think it was at the nextrad.io conference, it's on YouTube and well worth a watch if you haven't seen it) that he could never go back to all that now (Heart and commercial radio as a whole I think). A broadcaster of Mills' calibre doing 30 second links on the Time Tunnel - complete waste, it's well below him.

The wooden panels of Radio 2 await him maybe? Although if you'd of told me in 2006 that Scott would still be on Radio 1 in 10 years time I wouldn't of been suprised. He continues to be the best on the daytime lineup, he deserves to stop on another 10 imo.
 
He started alongside the likes of Chris Moyles, Mark & Lard, Simon Mayo, Clive Warren etc and is the only one left at Radio 1 who can turn his hand to anything. I mean thinking about different situations. If an event on the scale of 9/11 happened today could anyone on there apart from Scott be trusted to handle that properly on air...

I personally love any of the live stuff in the weird bit between Christmas and New year. Pre records are a bit naff. But I suppose we shall see loads of them.

Well they need to do something to get these figures up amongst younger listeners!

Completely agree, Adele is fantastic! As previously mentioned, though, because she's getting a little old for the TA, after early breakfast it's looking perhaps like she'll be quietly dropped. 
I think she should replace Dev on the Weekend Breakfast Show and have Jordan North in on early mornings. 

Dead wood. Personality of a raisin. Even the audio production ain't great. Bring back Fearne, or introduce some new talent (North?)

I can do better than that - the ever so slight delay let me down so I was too close to crashing the vocal for my perfectionist liking!

Thoughts? I've really enjoyed listening to him cover for Early Breakfast. Would you give him a permanent show?
