Sadly that's what it might look like. Maybe they should try something new on new years eve, where they pick 12 people, between 14 and 18 years, to do their own hour of Radio, presenting their new years eve party Anthems or so, instead of that celebrity sh... Stuff.

BBC Three have a youth panel, and I think Radio 1 do aswell. They help influence ideas and decisions about this kind of thing. I'm guessing all the celebrity shows help to boost listener figures and can be quite entertaining.

For example, when Dan & Phil started on Radio 1, they had a visual Christmas show, which turned into an annual Christmas show, which turned into a weekly show. It worked out incredibly well for them.

Well, personally, I don't like that celebrity stuff and I always switch to 1Xtra or use Spotify if an artist takeover or a Radio 1's Playlist is on

Might Jameela Jamlolz make a comeback?

WHOOOOOOOooOoooOOOoooo? She's been off air for over a year, she ain't coming back.

I hope Greg gets Christmas breakfast back this year, I always loved it when he was on. Other that that I have no real preference, I'm anticipating a lot of Dev (most overworked guy in radio) and Jordan.

Speaking of which, it's been almost two years since he started depping at R1, if that was a relationship I'd be expecting some kind of commitment by now.

15 year old's and below aren't interested in Radio. They've grown up with ipods, and youtube and spotify and therefore never had to use Radio like we did in the 90's and early 2000's.

They hire out one of the studio's at a station I'm at, for students from the uni to use on media courses. Just last week I chatted to the tutor who was overseeing a few students recording demo's etc. And he told me that they didn't know the difference between Radio 1 & Radio 4. One told him they had actually never listened to Radio 1 at any point in their life, incredible considering what they are studying.

But it goes to show Radio 1 is facing a lost battle with trying to pull in children as listeners. If they are going to go anywhere it's Capital as they hardly talk and play the same 15 songs back to back.

on the grid.

What about a Scott Mills student tour but at schools? For a month or so?

Hmm... I take it they've forgotten about Pete Allison then? And that woman who won Student Radio Awards?

Pete Allison does drive on Capital Yorkshire - that probably prevents him from doing R1 work, knowing Global. If the woman you're talking about is Hattie Pearson, she does overnights on X. So both not really in a position to do R1 work.

Sadly I think Pete's window of opportunity to get on Radio 1 has passed.

Also, very disappointed that yet again Greg won't be on the breakfast show on Christmas day. I also quite liked Scott and Chris when they did it, so Dev is a bit of a disappointment as much as I love him.

It just so happens that Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year - a day that Scott, Chris and Greg are not heard on R1 and that will be why Dev is doing it. Although, I do find it a strange that Scott and Chris don't appear on the radio until the Wednesday - I would have thought they would be back on air on the Monday. Dev is certainly seems to be Radio 1's 'go to guy' for cover and he is getting a lot of it again this Christmas!

Does anyone else remember early last year, Dev was on the radio every day for three weeks straight? I seem to remember him covering Greg in addition to his weekend show and Phil Taggart was covering Huw who was on holiday but called in sick so Dev stepped up, doing 4pm-7pm and then back on for the 10pm-1am show.

Bit disappointing how little live content there is. Can't remember the last time we didn't have the weekend/cover DJs live in the gap between Christmas and New Year (used to love Sara Cox doing it). Those shows are always really relaxed and fit in well. Scott & Chris not on Christmas Breakfast is a huge letdown. Loved them doing it the last few years- great show baubles deep in Christmas music and the brilliant features they'd do like opening on-air the presents they have to each other's mums! Gonna miss it. Looking forward to the Christmas Bangers show though.

I would've gone :

04:00 - Nick Bright or Yasser or Jordan North

06:30 - Scott & Chris

10:00 - Adele Roberts

13:00 - Matt Edmondson or Jordan North or Alice Levine

16:00 - Dev or Alice Levine

19:00 - Best of Annie Mac (Mon-Wed) ; Best of Glastonbury (Thurs)

21:00 - Radio 1's Review of the Year (Mon) ; Radio 1 Stories Repeat (Tues) ; Surgery Christmas Special (Wed) ; Radio 1's Movie Show (Thurs)

22:00 - Phil Taggart or Sophie Little

Maybe I'm just a miser but I really don't understand why radio DJs take all this time off over Christmas, I mean its 3 hours in a warm studio - tbh I'd much rather be on the radio with listeners than at home watching stupid films on TV or whatever people do at Christmas.  I know that the likes of Greg and Scott really don't care about having Christmas off, and would probably share my above view, which makes me wonder why they put the pre records on when they don't have to.

Anyway, rant over - any prediction for what 'Radio 1s Christmas Takeover' entails. Also Radio 1 at the Roundhouse???

Errr maybe they're entitled to time off with their friends and families at Christmas like anyone else? Working in radio isn't a walk in the park- it's still a job and doing a show takes a lot of planning, preparation and dedication. A lot of the presenters aren't from London either so I'd imagine they're back in their home towns maybe instead of hanging around Broadcasting House.

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
