It is a fine old horn indeed.
27 and in the midlands? Never heard such a load of nonsense in my life. Next thing you know you'll be telling me Keith Lemon is actually a bloke called Leigh. Madness.

But when was the last time they stuck two solo presenters together? It does send a bit of a message of "we don't think you're good enough on your own". I really like Matt and Alice on their own anyway and Alice was separated from Phil to push her as a solo presenter. Unless they bring in new talent, Alice and Matt are the only two presenters who seem like daytime material. Having said that, neither of them are technically good enough yet IMO- Matt has little to no slickness. It drives me mad when he does a good link, then hits play on a song, stops talking only to awkwardly come back in over the intro of the song to say "you're with Matt on BBC Radio 1, still to come.....". It just sounds awful and something you'd never hear Scott or Greg do- they instinctively know what sounds good and when to stop talking. That's Matt's biggest flaw I think.

Great post, forde52. Strange that they've brought back a previous voiceover but I'm pleased Mike Wooller will be used again- I think he's one of the best voiceovers Radio 1 have had. Bit strange that he's now a Capital presenter on Friday night and a Radio 1 VO at the same time?
Looks like the new voiceovers will take over properly when Live Lounge Month starts in a few weeks. I've liked the current foursome- Merv (London-sounding guy) and Louisa (not the Scottish one) in particular have sounded great and I've liked Kyle (Geordie guy) on Dance Anthems and some of the Breakfast Show stuff and idents. Haven't liked the Scottish female at all. It was an experiment to have 4 voices but I think it's worked well- the station has sounded great recently imaging-wise and the diversity in voices has kept things fresh.

I've been watching this thread for the past few days and have decided to throw my 2cents in!
And I'm going to start with a curve ball, I don't think 'Pure Jingles' are behind these new Power Intros and Idents that we are hearing. They do the "Where It Begins" TOHs and that's it.
Lets bring 'On The Sly' to the table for a second. They already produce the Summer Mixes (this years and last years) as well as The Live Lounge imaging. They create a lot of power intros for other stations and in general, which is why I think they (and the R1 station sound team) are behind them.
Another reason why I think this? Mike Wooller, male voice from 2012 and these new Power Intros, is one of On The Sly's voice over artists, and I'm sure I've heard this new female voice on one of their demos before.
As far as the old Pure Jingles package above goes, if you check out their soundcloud page you'll find that demo listed 2/3 years ago, proving that it is an old package and not a new one.
Newsbeat have been known to use an old voiced bed every now and again, so there's nothing new there.
    Have I missed anything?

I haven't listened to the Radio 1 Breakfast show for months - I'm listening to the post-Brits one radioanorak posted, I'm surprised by how outgoing and funny Tina has become. She was always rather shy on TCMS, but she's really grown into the role and adds a hell of a lot to an otherwise average breakfast show. Go Tina!

Wow, you are being SAVAGE radioanorak! (Insert painting fingernail emoji here.)
I laughed quite a bit at this (I disagree though haha).

I like Matt - his old Wednesday night show was one of the best, most creative and edgy things I have ever heard on the radio. Sadly (but understandably) he's gone much more mainstream since the move to weekends, but his show is still good and I find his games really inventive. It's also good how fresh he keeps things - unlike certain shows and features that go on long past their sell-by date, Matt constantly comes up with new things and gets rid of the old things so nothing overstays its welcome. Plus I find him very witty and enjoy his mundane stories. One of the few (the only) TV presenter who is actually good on the radio and has made the transition well. But I probably won't convince you. Oh well. Don't think he could ever be on KISS - he's nowhere near cool enough.
Oh well, we had a good run. Sorry to let you down, I hope we can get past this rough patch

Nerd alert: she hasn't, although she's not far off actually. Moyles was January 2004-September 2012, so 8 years 9 months, and Tina joined TCMS in February 2010 so she's been doing it for 6 years 6 months. Feels like yesterday that she replaced Carrie.

Would agree that it does seem logical Greg could be nearer to taking breakfast now. Although I'd quite like to see Scott back on drivetime! I think that's incredibly optimistic of me giving their strategy to reduce the average age of listeners, but if they were to start chasing ratings that would be a winning formula.

That won't happen. As much as I don't see how Danny's show is actually "Dance Anthems" when it's loads of fresh and mostly unreleased new dance music. Unlike Dave Pearce's version which was well established dance tracks that everyone knew.

Radio 1 has always had a dance show in that time for years. Remember, Judge Jules used to be there from the late 90's into the early 2000's, and then moved to 7-9 on a Saturday night. It is at the perfect time as people are getting ready to go out.

I do think Danny's show needs to be renamed though as it's a bit misleading with loads of upfront tunes. Maybe bring in a new presenter and put Dance Anthems on a Sunday evening, playing erm dance anthems. Where it always should of been.

Oh my. I think Nick's humour clearly goes over your head! He often makes jokes about his producers. For example when he used to say Matt Fincham was looking nice in a backless gown in the studio, its a joke!
Next time you might be telling me Greg James is live mixing the Dance Anthems....(he doesn't)

I believe in some of the power intros there was the odd 'IT'S FRIIIDAY' mentions but yeah, no direct mentions to New Music Friday.
Just to clarify with the new package rolling out this year, I assume Newsbeat and the Charts would have some updates as well to it's imaging? I remember during the 'Listen, Watch, Share' era of Newsbeat that when the new package fully launched the only change that it had was the updated voiceovers and nothing else if I'm correct?

Seeing as this spambot bumped this thread up, I thought I'd make a montage of a few occasions Greg used the Porter Robinson instrumental to start the show.
I have the first use of it from the 3rd May 2012, then 23rd July 2012 (Greg's first show after Chris Moyles announced he was leaving, to add context to it), 14th September 2012, 7th January 2012 and the last use of it on 9th May 2014.

Wow DC. Based on your bio/picture  (and the fact that you've been knocking about on these forums for yeeeeeeears), I always assumed you really were a 50-something man who lived in Iraq. Being 27 and living in the midlands has irreversibly changed my perception of you.

Woo, I got a shout out!
The trouble with Clara is that she's still very commercial radio - she has a personality, but she's used to the format of "two songs, short link with shout outs and trails ahead, two songs", with no content other than the music itself. It's a shame - I feel like she's a wasted potential.
Alice is a very funny woman - she's clearly a believer that "content is king", but admittedly that content isn't that strong. I don't that's a problem with her specifically though - with good production (as she had when Aled produced her) she could be excellent. I do believe that she is the natural heir to Scott Mills - when he leaves (god forbid), I think she could take over from him and have largely the same style and features, even inherit Chris. Again, potential but not fully realised as of yet.
I like Adele, but I don't think she's particularly funny or original. She's a very enjoyable listen, and clearly loves radio, but I don't see a bigger future for her after Early Breakfast. Her show is basically a continuation of Dev's run on Early Breakfast with a few of her own features thrown in (that awful Gemma period ignored). Adele is good, but not funny or edgy in the same way Scott, Greg, Matt, Dev or Alice are.
Annie Mac just exudes cool and I'm surprised how successful she's been in that slot considering she was primarily a dance DJ. Her handovers with Greg are nowhere near as good as Zane's though. On a slightly unrelated note, I listened to Zane for the first time in months the other day and he doesn't sound happy. He's moved away from his old shouty energetic enthusiastic style and now sounds very sombre and bored. Maybe it's just a natural progression for him as he matures, but it's just not the Zane I know. Also, without a handover at the top of his show he has no opportunity to show off how funny he is and how he doesn't always take himself seriously.
Anyway, those are my views on women (on the radio, that is) and everything else under the sun, it seems.

I hope so, would be a bit of a waste if they just used it for Friday although I did hear the new jingles on Adele Roberts and Grimmy's show without the 'New Music Friday' and 'FRIDAYY!!!' imaging so maybe we will hear everyday rather than just Friday.

Yeah, I heard those and they weren't amazing, but I'll let him off cause he's otherwise good. Tell the time, stop calling it "Newsbeat" and you'll be fine.
Is it now station policy to refer to it as "Newsbeat" and not just "the news"? Everybody seems to do it, bar Dev and Greg. Even Scott does it sometimes now. Can't say I'm a fan - "the news" sounds much more casual.
