  1. There are also Radio 1 pin badges, lanyards and pens. Although, when you already have an actual blue Radio 1 lanyard that they used to use, well, you don't need the BBC Shop
  2. Ahh, Capital Yorkshire! Their intro jingles were fantastic, and most of their content was great too. During their show, it seemed as though Capital was on in almost every building and car in Yorkshire and they always had some great ideas (see below!). A real fantastic team spirit - and commercial radio that actually envied the BBC. I listened every morning before being converted to BBC Radio 1 by an old friend (to whom I am eternally grateful). Consistently good radio. A lot of their stuff is on SoundCloud, including full length podcasts. I went to huge lengths to be featured - once texting in at the age of 12 to say "I've just looked over my wife's shoulder and she's texting another man. What do I do?". Lo and behold, moments later it was the discussion of an entire link. A real mastermind at 12, me.
  3. Been dipping in and out over half term. Scott's excellent, every show feels like a show. It shows that they're really at the top of their game - but really, that's how every show on Radio 1 should be - envied by other presenters, unattainable fun with equally unattainable listening figures.
  4. Does seem to have lost its way recently, what with the blame for people not listening on Spotify, yet providing basically the same service but without choice. Spotify is accessible to the vast majority of people with radio access - the only thing that makes radio stand out is the bits inbetween the songs, which now only seem to be plugs for more songs! Scott especially has been mentioning "X to play, X to play and X aswell in the next X minutes" - and so has Greg too. For God's sake Radio 1, don't morph into Capital.
  5. Paul and Chris go way back. He even was on the last show on R1, so I imagine he gets huge discounts and is paid on a timescale rather than per jingle.
  6. Ah, good. Yes. Many good points made here. Nick is doing a good job at doing what he's been asked to do, but unfortunately the show does seem to be lacking that "show" element - it feels like he doesn't put a lot of effort into what he's doing on air. He'll often be at the studios at 6:15, and be gone by half ten. Whereas presenters like Greg and even his Capital competitor Will Manning arrive at more like 1pm and stay until 8pm. Nick doesn't seem to enjoy radio from a radio point of view. I don't know where I'm going with that, but it's a thought nontheless.
  7. Bullshitty Wikipedia vandalism. Move on.
  8. I think despite the more music to talk ratio, the presenter perhaps should still aim to be engaging in their short links, even if they are short.
  9. WHEYYYY my hometown, and proud! Craig David will likely be there, seeing as he's always on R1. Perhaps The 1975 and Ed Sheeran? Probably no huge international names like 1D or Taylor Swift, but I'm hopeful.
  10. The "this is the BBC" intro is the same across all of the podcasts - even on Radio 2 (yep, just checked) I think if they're trying to push the all-encompassing brand, they need to adjust this to be a little longer. "This is content brought to you by BBC Radio. If you like it, add it to your favourites with the BBC iPlayer Radio app". Maybe. Something of substance.
  11. When they're overproduced, it reduces that raw, live feeling of it. And they've been increasing three songs across all non-specialist shows from what I've heard!
  12. *Newsbeat, sorry, been getting on my nerves Great idea but only if met with meticulous production, i.e. pre-edited and not slopped over the top. It sounds so obvious when it is.
  13. At what point was this, please? Have a great Christmas!
  14. Not sure whether these were externally produced, they sound a little thrown together (still great), but it seems that the normal idents are slightly cut off and replaced with an old Scott Mills ident. Still sounds pretty good!

  16. My bet would be that it'd be a generic "The Radio 1 Breakfast Show". Would be a little odd if they didn't.
  17. Update us when you do pleaaase!
  18. Someone's copied and passed it off as their own. That's just plain rude.
  19. I do agree with much of above, actually. I feel as though this rebrand is highly inconsistent - the breakfast show sounds like it's from a student radio station and isn't in sync with the rest of the packages. Pre-edited "Radio 1" voices are edited into the beginning of audio packages, and then suddenly a rather brash "GREG JAMES" is shouted over the intro vocals. The Breakfast Show is now essentially news, music and completely over the top 20 second idents. Nick might aswell not even be there. Newsbeat sounds completely different to the rest of the station. The station is just a confusing mash of noise. Even the trails sound pretty bad. And the other thing - they need to stop using WiseBuddah, Pure, Music4, IMGR and an in-house team. They should stick with one - remember those bloody amazing Pure packages from the 2012 era? They didn't require any music to prop them up, didn't have naff voices. There was no arsing about, just some beautiful idents that sounded big but not too big. Brilliant voices, even better production. Here's a little trip down memory lane for how I think Radio 1 imaging SHOULD sound:
  20. I'm taking that from Scott's Snapchat actually!
  21. Sounding pretty good! Although still a lot of inconsistency. Interestingly, the power intros are cued before the songs. In that, I mean they're two separate files and the power intros aren't edited to the start of the songs. Wouldn't notice though would you?!
  22. The new news intros will take me by surprise for sure. Gotta say, I still think 2011/2012 were the best packages with the best voices.
  23. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Well done.
  24. Hmm... I take it they've forgotten about Pete Allison then? And that woman who won Student Radio Awards?
