  1. I agree with the Lewis Hamilton one. I've always found him to be arrogant without the charisma to balance, not to mention overrated.
  2. I was surprised to see there was no thread on the recent student protest, so I have taken it upon myself to rectify this. As I'm sure you all know, the protest started peacefully, as planned, but eventually turned quite nasty and violent with buildings being vandalised and Millbank Tower, which houses Conservative Party HQ, was trashed and occupied with students reportedly throwing objects including a fire extinguisher off the roof. My friend who was caught up amongst it all said it was nothing but a "straight up riot". The protest was organised by a legitmate and recognised organisation, and was for a legitimate cause - but will support be lost as a result of the violence and damage caused? Is this the start of a large number of protests and riots against the coalition Government in a 'winter of discontent'? Is this the only way to receive airtime and publicity for your cause? Are violent protests and mass/co-ordinated riots a legitimate way of expressing disapproval of our politicians and their actions? Do the Government, the Lib Dems in particular, have anything to fear? What are your views?
  3. Many happy returns to the (in)famous Viv. Wishing you the very best for the next year and beyond
  4. As it says in the title, what do you dislike or even hate that everyone else seems to love? For me: Twilight Harry Potter Twitter Mumford and Sons Doctor Who Kings of Leon Cheryl Cole Take That Gavin and Stacey Lord of the Rings Rubicon Cheese (in every sense of the word) Fanta Fruit Twist Red Bull Any kind of tropical flavoured fruit juice Anything strawberry or raspberry flavoured Abercrombie and Fitch Jack Wills Eastenders The X-Factor past the audition stage Johnny Vegas Russell Howard ...and most of all, Lee Evans. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
  5. It's not complete silence though, there's background noise which itself is fairly loud.
  6. On an interview last night with Stephen Nolan, the person who's responsible for the music played on Radio 1 and 1Xtra (can't remmeber his name or job title) did confirm that the song will be played.
  7. What's up with the US obsession with British presenters? It's not even as if they take the good ones. Piers Morgan..?
  8. Glad to know I'm not the only one who laughed
  9. Thanks! Expect updates in the 'What sucks in your life?' thread What's Plixi? And I think you should have one of those Twitter box things in your signature, Viv. I'd like to keep up with developments in your life as I do with The Stig & Jono even though I don't have Twitter myself
  10. It'll be great hearing Nihal on R1 daytime again! But why Nihal over Dev, Matt, Tom and Huw? Interesting move..
  11. They really don't seem to be pushing Dev about anymore.
  12. Such sad news, my thoughts are with her family and friends.
  13. I won £3.50 at the casino! My gambling addiction has just begun..
  14. Are they really? If that's true then that's crazy! Especially those who are working freelance. The reason why my mum, a teacher, never went on strike in the days when teachers were striking over pay (she always agreed with the cause) was because by striking she wouldn't be paid, and would therefore be worse off.
  15. Quite a few freelance journalists are striking. Off the top of my head BBC London's Eddie Nestor and BBC News' Huw <strike>Stephens</strike> Edwards and Fiona Bruce are all on strike.
  16. The repeats on 5 Live during the day yesterday just made the station unlistenable. Although hearing classic interviews, classic Wittertainment and classic Fighting Talk was good, a full day of repeats on a news station like 5 Live isn't really good enough.
  17. I do agree about the wife bit, I remember hearing about that not too long after. And about being shot from 4 different positions at the same time - they all reacted quickly to the situation unfolding infront of them, and they all happened to be very swift and instinctive in their reaction meaning the guns were all fired at the same time. It happens, just like in a game of Snap. It's not a Charles de Menezes-esque scenario when they all just stood over him shooting continually after failing to declare themselves as police when chasing him with guns.
  18. So you're a firearms officer, you and all of the many other firearms officers that are with you are armed and dealing with a drunken and depressed man who's pointing a gun at your friend and colleague. You're trained to deal with these situations. You don't know if his gun is loaded. You don't know what's going on in his head. You don't know what he wants to do, or is planning to do. All you know is what you see infront of you. A crazed man pointing a gun at your friend and colleague. Do you just stand there doing f-all in hope that the person with the gun aimed at them as able to deal with the situation themselves? Or do you handle the situation in the spare and rush of the moment in the way that you've been extensively trained to?
  19. That's a shame actually because I quite like listening to the repeat of the Review Show at midnight on a Sunday night. Who presents the England Nations show?
  20. Who doesn't Just a guilty pleasure A link to the interview was posted on another forum, so apart from my casual browsing in WHSmiths, no I don't read teenage girl's magazines
  21. I've just come back from seeing Annie Mac. Oh my gosh, she is amazing!
  22. I'll try and find a link to the interview. It was with a teenage girl's magazine I think (Mizz or something). But she basically said she's not a fan of breakfast radio and wouldn't be able to deal with the early mornings. And that she's primarily a DJ rather than a mainstream radio presenter. Basically breakfast isn't for her. The best link I could find: http://www.metro.co.uk/showbiz/interviews/77699-60-seconds-annie-mac#ixzz13s4gy1my
  23. Annie has always said she doesn't want to do the breakfast show. So I'd say Nick Grimshaw or even, as oli said, Shaun Keaveny from 6Music would be good. But preferably George Lamb, but that'll never happen. Sara Cox as a regular stand-in, I doubt she'd be offered the job (apart from on a caretaker basis), or want the job for that matter.
