  1. Great news for Coxy, not so much for us listeners- I hope she doesn't take too long off, or leave! She's gonna have a right gaggle of kids soon! Congratulations Sara!
  2. Oh that is quite tacky. Shouldn't it be Fearne replaces a line-up of legends...?
  3. Oh dear Fearne... In no way was it her talent/personality (or lack of) that got her the job, it was the targets of the BBC Trust. If she honestly believes she gained the job on merit alone as opposed to age/looks then she's a bigger fool than I took her for. Jo Whiley's show still works fabuously, yet whilst solo (I think F&R sound good together) Fearne simply doesn't have the entertainment factor to make you want to tune in again. It merely follows the desire for change and to appear to appeal to the teen market- who we all know are at school at this time! Ridiculous. It the show was awarded by talent and popularity then if a replacement was needed it would have quite blatantly been given to Sara Cox.
  4. I'm sorry- Moyles is a tub of lard? I'd hate to be the one to finally reveal the object known as "a mirror" to Gaunt. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black... When was the last time he climbed Kilamanjiro or ran 5 miles(ish) each day?! It certainly illustrates a lack of imagination and a clutching of proverbial straws when people feel the need to factor Chris being 'large' into a so-called argument. He is a talented, popular DJ at the top of his game- could it by any chance be a case of the green-eyed monster?!
  5. Yes he is, he's fantastic- and the day he leaves will be the day Radio 1 crashes and burns. Not to be over-dramatic or owt! Of course Coxy is a close second- oh those heady Breakfast days...
  6. It's not variety when it's the same few songs played constantly- i.e. Bodyrockers for the five millionth time. My point was if they're trying to appeal to younger listeners, why play all these old songs? The time taken up by 'filler' could be used for something fresher.
  7. Bloody hell Fearne is boring on her own. Couldn't be bothered to listen for more than ten minutes today. Yay, roll on 21st September... or not.
  8. Without meaning to stir it all up, Radio 1 are saying how they've got to play music that is relevant to the younger listeners, but why do they still regularly play songs from four or five(ish) years ago? They still play Doctor Pressure (yawn), Let Me Think About It (boring), they played the awful 'Voodoo Child' today... there is a main offender but ironically I can't remember it although Radio 1 plays it all the time! I don't get this 'filler' they seem to stuff the playlist with which you can be guaranteed to hear every day- why is it always average one-hit-wonder dance-lite? They could replace it with new music instead of songs that have been played to death. I'm sure it'd fit more in with the youth orientated direction.
  9. There's only 17 Jo Whiley (weekday) shows left! I'm going to miss her rather a lot- she's sounding as good as ever. The only consolation is I'm starting a job where I won't be able to listen to daytime R1, so at least I can listen at weekends and not be bothered about missing Fearne.
  10. I won't pretend I'm not disappointed!
  11. Some fair points made by Aled, even if I don't agree with all of them. The thing that is telling to me is the 'Under 18s' comment- the majority of the target audience is over 18, but it seems the focus for the R1 bosses is definitely not on those at the moment, with the 'older' listeners (18-24) seemingly a little sidelined.
  12. Cheers dut, we know we're right! It's a good song!
  13. I do think this is another ageism stunt by Radio 1. As ever, Madonna can spot a trend and is using it to her advantage. In the case it's the 'Euphoria' type thing, kind of using elements of trance (mmm...'90s)- as Calvin Harris did with "I'm Not Alone" and on Dizzee's "Holiday". So I can't see how it's not relevant- I also think it's a good song, maybe a bit of a grower. As for parading around in her underwear- I don't see why not! It's gets people talking, and publicity is something Madonna's always been good at.
  14. She has a point though- it's not as if she'd sound out of place on Radio 1, she's just a victim of the 'flip a coin' policy to see if a song goes on the playlist or not. If it had been played it would most probably have been more successful. I'm not a fan of all her songs (and not this particular track), but I kinda respect what she does and agree with her sentiments.
  15. She has some very valid points- especially the part about thinking they're leaders but are actually trailing behind.
  16. You're all harsh (but funny)! Donna, have a think about it- the August bank holiday is in August. It's always the last weekend of the month, which makes it 29th-31st August this year. Sorry, I had to put her out of her misery!
  17. What absolute tosh. A complete non-item- could someone not be bothered to find an actual story? Jo's not on the playlist commitee and hasn't featured those particular bands any more than others DJs.
  18. Oh no. I'll be turning off at ten to ten then.
  19. I have to agree, I'm really not enjoying it. The good thing though is that it makes me appreciate even more how great Chris is after he's had a holiday (sorry Scott!).
  20. The scary thing is, that really wouldn't be surprising.
  21. Yes but it is indicative of them being behind the times, no matter what genre.
  22. It really does seem like they're a bit clueless sometimes-as if they're 3 weeks behind the times. They should be trend setters, not followers. I heard Madonna's new song on RADIO 2 today- where is it on Radio 1?!
  23. She was great as ever- loved the cemetery story! Why have Cotton when you can have Cox, I ask?!
  24. I don't know how Chris does it, but when he talks about any old mundane stuff, it's still entertaining- I listened to Vernon this morning and it sounded a bit flat. I wanted to give him a chance, but it was kinda boring.
  25. I like the idea of a review show- that's just the sort of thing I thought they should do on Edith's show instead of the constant boring film talk. Shame it's with Nihal though, I find him intensely irritating. I'm not surprised Annie's moving shows with Pete Tong- he has been a bit sidelined since they introduced 'Floorfillers' (which I think is a waste of time, only there to fit in with the 7 o'clock finish), though I do much prefer the Mash Up. It would be nice to have it on Saturdays too, with more indie in there- that would be a good alternative. Who is going to start the weekend now though?! And what of Vernon Kay's plans to be the new Pete Tong?!
