Jerry’s sock habit crowned weirder than Greg’s bedtime t-shirt in Radio 1 vote

Radio 1 BreakfastRecap of the show on

Greg James spent much of Wednesday's breakfast show fighting a losing battle over his sleepwear, after Jeremiah "Jerry" Asiamah revealed he sleeps in nothing but socks. The row spilled over from the day before, prompting a BBC Sounds poll asking listeners which was weirder: Greg's t-shirt-only approach or Jerry's socks-only one. Thousands voted, and when Charlie Hedges read out the result live on air, socks won by 72% to 28%. "You're weirder, Jerry," Greg declared, though Jerry wasn't having it, comparing the "dodgy wrangling" to Manchester City's title battles.

The Fact Controller made its comeback too, with Roisin Hastie back in the studio sorting out listeners' wrong assumptions, including the truth behind "damp squib" (not squid, as one listener believed for years) and why some kettles only let you fill them through the spout. Producer Tom then derailed things slightly by researching what would actually happen to a squid put through a washing machine's spin cycle.

Greg also revived his old "Rent-a-Greg" bit, offering to help listeners with odd jobs, from holding rugby tackle bags for Sam at Bath Rugby to possibly grooming a horse for Leshka's championship class in November. Elsewhere, a debate about using strangers in shops as makeshift "size charts" for partners' clothing spiralled wildly, with producer Helena admitting she's done exactly that, much to Greg's mock horror.
