Grafting entered the vocabulary
Love Island supplied the new word of the day: “grafting”, meaning the sustained effort of winning someone over.
Away from the villa, a listener described sending a spring-loaded glitter bomb to a kebab shop after an argument over an £8 order and the correct change.
Annie’s golden tickets
Annie Mac arrived with two Glastonbury tickets to give away. She argued that the festival surpassed Coachella because it was quintessentially British and offered an entire temporary world rather than simply a sequence of musical performances.
Scott faced a game built from the festival line-up. He had to decide whether strange names belonged to genuine Glastonbury acts and stages or had been invented by the production team. Disgraceful Squids, E. Coli and Off Me Nut, and Hong Kong Ping Pong all demonstrated that real festival listings could be harder to believe than the fakes.
Nobody wanted Scott’s picnic
Hot weather made Scott want a picnic with colleagues, but everyone treated the word as impossibly romantic or embarrassingly quaint.
Chris suggested that calling it a barbecue might make the invitation acceptable. Scott threatened to stage the outing alone.
The discussion then moved to another questionable summer trend after a fashion writer declared socks and sandals stylish. Scott and Chris rejected that idea with rather more unity.
