Clara and listeners get ready for Halloween

Trevor NelsonRecap of the show on

Clara Amfo spent the afternoon covering for Trevor Nelson and quickly got into a cheerful back-and-forth with a listener during One Second to Name. Lauren in Chester admitted she was busy "making Halloween costumes" for her daughter and her friends before correctly naming Alexander Stan's Mr Saxobeat from the clue "a rhythmic man from the Woodwind section." Clara couldn't resist teasing her about being "that mum" who's brilliant at Halloween outfits, and Lauren took it in good humour.

There was a genuinely touching moment when Clara gave an update on Owain Wyn Evans' preparations for his Children in Need cycling challenge, 400 miles in five days. Owain admitted on a pre-recorded clip that he was feeling "a little bit overwhelmed of late" by training alongside a busy schedule, saying "this challenge is flying down the road towards me." Clara was clearly moved, telling listeners she felt "so protective" over him and urging everyone to send support, noting Owain will be chatting to Sara Cox on Breakfast the next morning.

Clara also used her Clara's Crate segment to champion Jamiroquai, insisting firmly that "JK is the singer, Jamiroquai is the band," and played a deep cut from Travelling Without Moving. Elsewhere she previewed a new Blondie track, Sunday Girl-style exclusive called Spectral Eyes, from their forthcoming album High Noon, and teased Jo Whiley's one-off Amy Winehouse tribute show, Back to Black at 20 Live, airing the following Monday.
