A familiar face at the Furchester Hotel
Scott had been watching CBBC with his goddaughter and found himself preoccupied by the logic of Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures. He could not understand why Andy needed to travel through time whenever the museum required something as ordinary as a feather. His viewing then revealed an even greater discovery: Cookie Monster had a British cousin called Biscuit Monster, complete with a bowler hat and a taste for proper biscuits.
New Radio 1 presenter Katie Thistleton happened to know Biscuit Monster and arranged a telephone call. He told Scott that chocolate biscuits were his favourite and was unimpressed by the warm, chewy cookies served in America. Scott delighted in having found a character who shared his conviction that a biscuit and a cookie were not quite the same thing.
Five hours in the sea
Caller James supplied a holiday disaster from a festival in Spain. He had gone into the sea and stayed there for five hours, leaving himself badly sunburnt and without the book he had meant to read. His shorts had ripped as well, but the day still found another way to go wrong.
When the bus arrived, James stepped aside to let other passengers board. The driver then departed without him, taking his friends with it and leaving James behind after he had also dropped his towel. Scott and Chris marvelled at how a simple trip to the beach had accumulated so many separate indignities.
Biffy Clyro faced their critics
At Big Weekend, Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil met three people who had apparently insulted the band: English Rhys, Welsh Rhys and Jess. Two were genuine superfans pretending to be unimpressed, while one had never heard of Biffy Clyro. Simon had to identify the real non-fan.
He selected English Rhys, only to discover that he was wrong. English Rhys unzipped his jacket to reveal a Biffy Clyro shirt, while Welsh Rhys turned out to be the genuine newcomer. The programme also revisited Big Weekend oddities during Real or No Real, including a woman dressed as a fox and Greg James’s miniature jelly-pot DJ rider.
