Scott meets the Strictly cast
Scott had filmed the Strictly Come Dancing launch trailer and met contestants whose names had not all been made public. He was so tired that Chris was warned not to trick him into revealing anybody.
His new dance shoes were exceptionally shiny and contained the code name used during the secret preparation. Scott had also brought Pixie Lott’s shoes into Radio 1 after she forgot them, a small sign that the contestants were already functioning as a group.
The nation argues about a baked Alaska
Social media was furious about the previous night’s Great British Bake Off. Diana Beard had removed Iain Watters’s ice cream from a freezer, and Iain later threw the ruined baked Alaska into a bin.
Scott repeatedly told listeners that it was “just cakes”, which made them angrier. He played the key moments with a spoiler warning and enjoyed how almost every instruction on the programme also sounded suitable for Innuendo Bingo.
Chris provides music in the BBC showers
Chris believed Saint Motel’s “My Type” was the perfect morning shower song. The BBC’s staff showers did not have a radio, so he carried a speaker downstairs and offered the music as a motivational service to people arriving by bicycle.
The workers were surprised to find a Radio 1 presenter outside their cubicles, but the song filled the room and Chris considered the experiment a success. Scott was relieved he had not tried to join anybody in the shower itself.
Luke Kempner turns tweets into impressions
Impressionist Luke Kempner returned after seeing Scott and Chris in Edinburgh. He read genuine celebrity tweets in the voices of Jessie J, Harry Redknapp and others, while the pair guessed whether the named celebrity had actually written them.
The voice made each statement sound authentic even when it belonged to somebody completely different. A tweet about Bake Off innuendo delivered as Jessie J had actually come from Paul Hollywood.
Caroline Flack gets a Strictly welcome
Caroline Flack was announced as another member of the Strictly cast. Scott was delighted to have a friend available for the difficult moments and described her as somebody he could hug when rehearsals became overwhelming.
Caroline agreed to play Innuendo Bingo as an unofficial warm-up. Scott warned her about the shock of the first cold splash and the amount of water Kristian Nairn had produced the previous week.
The advice did not prepare her clothes. Caroline’s top and jeans were saturated, and she became quiet while considering the rest of her day. She was due to go straight to a dance rehearsal and had no convincing way to disguise what had happened.
