Arriving early
Scott asked listeners for occasions when they had arrived far earlier than intended.
The examples included:
– a couple reaching a Jimmy Carr show a full year early
– a daughter being taken ice skating a month before the rink had been installed
– a child arriving at school dressed as a pirate one week early
– another child wearing a Comic Relief red nose on the wrong day
– nine-year-old Gemma walking to a party in complete clown make-up before being told it was the following week
Scott remembered arriving an hour early for a radio-job interview, waiting in his car and then discovering he had gone to the company’s Dunstable office rather than Milton Keynes.
The empty Old Trafford
Johnny and his friend Ginge drove three-and-a-half hours from Skegness for a Manchester United game.
They reached Old Trafford and found the 74,000-seat stadium completely empty.
The fixture had been moved from Saturday to Sunday for television after their printed schedule was produced.
Rather than make the same journey again the next day, they sold the tickets.
Johnny blamed Ginge entirely because he had been driving.
The Birthday Game: Michael
Michael from Malton in North Yorkshire turned 40 and enjoyed long-distance running.
He had completed 61 miles in a 24-hour event near Leeds and described the experience of running through sunset, darkness and sunrise as magical.
His first spin was Don McLean’s Crying. Michael rejected it as too sad.
The second was Michael Jackson’s One Day in Your Life. He rejected another downbeat choice.
His compulsory final song was David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland with When Love Takes Over, number one in 2009.
Michael remembered dancing to it during club nights in Scarborough and was delighted with the result.
Lucy’s hen party
Lucy was travelling with friends Polly, Sophie and the rest of her hen group without knowing their destination.
Scott played a dramatic tourism-style clue describing a beach, amusement parks and nightlife.
The answer was Margate.
Lucy learned the destination live on Radio 2 as the group continued its journey.
The Wonder Years
The Friday Wonder Years was an all-1980s edition, beginning in 1983 and featuring artists including Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Wham! and Kate Bush.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after revealing Lucy’s hen destination and completing the 1980s Wonder Years.
