The newly announced UK representatives for Junior Eurovision joined Scott only hours after being revealed on Zoe Ball’s breakfast programme.
Hayla, Maisie and Yazmin explained that they had first been placed together during the audition callbacks in late August.
Although Maisie was the oldest at 13, Yazmin was regarded as the mother of the group because she kept everybody focused, checked their appearance and tried to stop Hayla fidgeting during recordings.
The announcement had transformed an ordinary school day into a flood of messages from friends, dancers and people who had not contacted them before.
Messages from Mae Muller and Rylan
The trio spoke warmly about Mae Muller and the positive example set by recent Eurovision entrants.
Scott surprised them with a message from Mae, who wished them luck and told them to enjoy the experience.
A second message came from Rylan, who described Back to Life as an absolute banger and urged them to bring the trophy home.
The messages left members of the group visibly emotional.
Back to Life
STAND UNIQU3 introduced the first full Radio 2 play of Back to Life.
They were preparing to represent the UK at Junior Eurovision in Nice on 26 November.
Scott praised the song and reminded listeners that the competition would be shown on BBC Two, CBBC and iPlayer.
The Birthday Game: Paul
Paul from Suffolk turned 60.
He worked as a landscape gardener and spent his spare time with his partner Chris driving their collection of classic cars, including Minis, a Morgan and an MG.
Paul wanted 1980s music, 1990s indie, rock, Ed Sheeran or George Michael.
His first spin was Elton John and Dua Lipa’s Cold Heart. He rejected it.
The second was Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin’s version of It’s My Party, number one in 1981.
Paul accepted it.
His unused final song would have been Las Ketchup’s The Ketchup Song, which reminded him of time spent in Spain.
The Music Police
Mark’s case returned after he heard the programme discussing him while at work.
He had originally supplied the clue from a phone he had since lost, despite keeping the same number for around a decade.
The force completed the investigation and closed the case before Scott invited more listeners to hum unidentified songs into the hotline.
Handover
Scott handed over after previewing Friday’s Wonder Years.
