Scott Mills has received warm public support from friends and former BBC colleagues after his husband, Sam Vaughan, shared an emotional anniversary post on Instagram.
Sam marked the couple’s two-year wedding anniversary by posting a black-and-white photo from their wedding day, simply writing: “Two years,” alongside a red heart emoji.
The post drew affectionate replies from several familiar names, including Zoe Ball, Sara Cox and Rylan Clark. Zoe wrote “Love you” with heart emojis, while Sara and Rylan also shared heart emojis in support.
It is Sam’s first Instagram post since Scott left BBC Radio 2 earlier this year, following reports that the BBC had received new information connected to a historic police investigation. The Metropolitan Police investigation, which related to allegations dating back to between 1997 and 2000, was closed in 2019 after prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.
Scott has previously said through his lawyers that he had been the subject of “rumour and speculation” and that he fully co-operated with the police investigation.
The BBC has said it acted after receiving new information in the weeks before Scott’s departure. Scott is reportedly considering legal action over his dismissal.
Since leaving Radio 2, Scott has stepped back from a number of projects and appearances. Gary Davies has been covering the Radio 2 breakfast show, with Sara Cox expected to take over the slot in the summer.
For many fans, Sam’s anniversary post was a quiet but touching moment, and the supportive messages from Scott’s friends showed that he remains loved by many of those who have known and worked with him over the years.
